    Sold

    SOLD

A small but very impactful mid century modernist composition, painted in oil onto board, by the established Swedish artist Ivar Morsing (1919-2009), whose works have been exhibited in public collections including the National Museum in Stockholm, Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Kalmar Museum, and Jönköping Museum.

This painting depicts a vegetable stand scene with two figures engaging with their produce at the stand. The style is expressionistic, characterized by loose brushstrokes and an emphasis on light, movement, and mood rather than precise details.

The central figure, dressed in dark clothing, appears to be sorting or arranging vegetables, with their face softly blurred, adding a sense of anonymity and universality to the scene. The contrast between the lighter background and the darker foreground elements helps create a sense of depth and focus on the workers.

    Sold

    SOLD

A very large abstract painting by contemporary British artist Frances Daws, executed in acrylic onto canvas and dated 2024.
This Ground I’ve Walked, I’ve Walked Before is a reflection of a known landscape for Frances – the distinct yellow fields and green hills of England in summer. The painting has a beautifully composed complimentary poem (see below), which talks about how places stick within your very being. You may walk through places you never have before and yet find and feel a very real connection to the place and it’s steeped history.
This ground I’ve walked, I’ve walked before. I know it’s oddities, it’s dangling limbs, It’s buried roots, it’s ancient trees. Oak, elder, pine, we are all friends. I breathe it’s forests, eyes closed, hands open. I soak in it’s seas and run down it’s hills. It’s rooted within me, a lived history within every new step. I know this ground, I’ve walked it before.’
Painted on stretched canvas and with its edges painted in soft yellow, it is beautifully presented in a white tray frame. The painting and the frame are in excellent condition. It comes with a certificate of authenticity and signature on the reverse.

Frances Daws is a British Artist working in the Southwest of England. Primarily a painter she also works within printmaking. • Under the Paris Sky

    Under the Paris Sky

    Sold

    SOLD

A tranquil and ethereal mid-century cityscape that beautifully captures the quiet movement of daily life in Montmartre in France, executed in oil onto canvas.

The composition captures a Parisian scene with the iconic domes of the Sacré-Cœur Basilica enveloped in a misty, dreamlike atmosphere. In the foreground, abstracted figures are strolling on a reflective path surrounded by lush greenery, their dark silhouettes providing a striking contrast to the luminous backdrop. A thin black tree branch frames the left side of the foreground, adding depth and structure to the scene.

There is a striking interplay of colours – as the background glows with a warm golden yellow, fading into soft pastel hues of peach, pink, and lavender, lending the impression of dawn or dusk light. In contrast, the deep greens in the lower half of the painting anchor the composition, representing the grass and walkways with expressive, painterly strokes.

The grid arrangement is asymmetrical, giving the piece a sense of modernist abstraction while maintaining an organic, handmade feel.

    SOLD

A mid-century painting that captures a serene yet dynamic beach scene, executed in oil onto canvas and dated 1967.

The composition depicts six figures wading and swimming in the ocean, appearing to be leisurely enjoying the gentle waves. A rhythmic movement of waves dominates the background, lending a sense of motion to the composition.

The artist has used a loose, expressive style reminiscent of mid-century modern impressionism, using bold and gestural brushstrokes as well as focusing on colour as opposed to realistic details.

The colour palette consists of cool blue shades as well as darker navy blue for the water and sky, juxtaposed with yellows from the figures, creating a vibrant yet harmonious contrast.

The brushwork is fluid and dynamic, with painterly strokes that capture the texture of the waves and the shimmer of sunlight reflecting on the water.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary frame with a hessian lined border. Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

  • Geometric Interplay

    Geometric Interplay

    Sold

    SOLD

An outstanding mid-century modernist style composition, executed in oil and dated 1954.

Characterised by its use of geometric abstraction, the painting is structured around overlapping geometric shapes—semi-circles, circles, triangles, and rectangles—creating a dynamic interplay of forms.

The dominant colours are cool tones like blues, greens, and teals, unified with warmer accents of muted orange and yellow. This palette creates a sense of calm and balance.

The brushwork is smooth with visible layering and blending of colours, as each shade transitions seamlessly from one shade to the next.

By deliberately leaving areas of the canvas unoccupied, the artist has skilfully utilised negative space to emphasise the geometric forms and draws attention to the boundaries between each element.

This oil on canvas has been laid onto board, and is housed in a complementary slim wood frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has some scuffing.

    SOLD

A vibrant and striking mid-century abstract composition with a geometric and modernist aesthetic, executed in oil onto board.

The composition seems to abstractly depict a fragmented architectural scene, possibly hinting at building structures. The prominent yellow circle in the upper section likely represents the sun.

Containing elements of abstraction, the work exhibits a playful yet organised arrangement of forms. It is characterised by geometric shapes, bold flat areas of colour, and there is an emphasis on balance and structure.

The colour palette is striking yet harmonious, featuring muted tones of orange, teal, blue, cream, and green, punctuated by the bright yellow of the sun. These colours create a sense of warmth and balance, with the darker teal and orange adding depth.
