  • Pears & Jug

    Sold

    SOLD.

A brilliantly executed mid-century still life in oil, painted by the established Swedish artist Eric Cederberg (1897-1984), whose artworks have been represented in several public collections across Sweden.

In this excellent composition, three pears, a white jug, and a few other chestnut-like objects are laid out on a wooden surface. Working with a rich colour palette comprising shades of yellow, green, brown and white, as well as detailed and precise brushstrokes, the artist has skilfully captured the three-dimensional qualities of the objects and the intricate grain on the wood, whilst simultaneously emphasising the two-dimensional flatness of the board.

This oil on board is very well presented within a thick mount board and a slim gilt frame.  Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

  • Still Life, Painted Objects

    Sold

    SOLD.

A small but powerful still life composition by British artist Lloyd Durling, painted with oil stick, oil pastel and graphite onto linen panel. Signed, titled and dated on reverse.

Central to this painting is an intense engagement with oil stick and graphite on linen that explore the interface between painting, drawing and collage. There is a balance between expressive play and tight control and with this comes an expanse of associations that push beyond simple categorisations of abstraction or scale. The information in each painting, given by gesture or mark, is reduced to a fleeting register on the surface, as if each mark has to count.

Both painting and frame are in excellent condition.

  • Yellow Flowers

    Sold

    SOLD.

A small and very striking mid century modernist still life composition, executed in oil onto board.

In this simple yet effective composition, the artist draws our attention to a pot of bright yellow flowers in the centre of the painting, set against a darker coloured interior setting.

Painted in a modernist style, each form has been outlined with bold black outlines, emphasising each individual form as well as its three-dimensional quality. Deep, rich and vivid colours have been applied to the surface with broad and expressive brushstrokes, leaving a wonderful light textural and painterly effect to the painting.

  • The Green Apple

    Sold

    SOLD.

A small yet striking well-executed modernist still life composition, painted in oil onto board.

Confident, expressive brushstrokes in rich colours have been applied to create this still life composition featuring a green apple on a brown plate, placed atop a table and set against a bold green background.

The artist displays his artistic skills – thoughtfully using a blend and mix of colours to emphasise the objects’ three-dimensional qualities as well as to capture their reflection on the table.

The painting is housed in a complementary grey wood frame with an inner gilt window that illuminates the painting. Both artwork and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

  • Asters

    Sold

    SOLD.

This sweet still life of blue and yellow asters in vase is full of texture and character. The artist has used a palette knife to thickly apply the paint, creating a composition full of depth and dynamism. The painting and its frame have a quaint country vibe, and its imperfections give it a rustic look that add to its charm.

The painting is fixed to its original mount and frame, which dates to the mid 20th century. The painting is in good vintage condition. The frame has some areas of wear and loss but this does not detract from the painting, and if anything adds to its vintage charm.

A charming miniature oil still life of unassuming apples and pears. This compact painting features rich colouring and texture, and is housed in a wonderful wood and gilt vintage effect frame.

Miniature paintings are often overlooked treasures. Their small size means they can fit into an array of small spaces, adding interest to nooks and crannies. They can be displayed on a bookshelf or kitchen shelf, either standing on a mini easel or leant against other objects/books. If added to a group display, these small pieces act as a wonderful contrast to bigger pieces, and can add ‘punctuation’ to the group hang.
