  • Pair of Oils

    £1,200

    Available

Free shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

An engaging and powerful pair of abstract compositions by British contemporary artist Lloyd Durling, painted in oil onto linen board. Each signed, titled and dated 2024 on reverse.

Central to these paintings are an intense engagement with oil on linen that explores the interface between painting, drawing and collage. There is a balance between expressive play and tight control and with this comes an expanse of associations that push beyond simple categorisations of abstraction or scale. The information in each painting, given by gesture or mark, is reduced to a fleeting register on the surface, as if each mark has to count.

The idea of topography is of central importance and is explored through continuing walking projects. These serve as opportunities to gather diverse source material through physical and emotional interactions with whichever environment chosen to traverse. It amounts to a kind of urban and rural wandering where the information gathered is reinterpreted or reimagined feeding into a deep connection with landscape, arrangements of ancient monuments, light, shadow and forgotten histories – all of these elements find a way into the work.

Both paintings are oil on linen board and housed in a complementary walnut stained oak frame. Both the paintings and frames are in excellent condition. Each one of these is a one-off unique hand painted piece, so the pair will be available until any one of the pieces is purchased individually. If you prefer to buy an individual piece, you can do so here.

Size: Each one measures 50 x 40 cm (including frame)

  • Bottle & Pears in Window

    Sold

    SOLD

A brilliantly executed contemporary still life composition in oil, painted onto canvas and presented in a white floater frame that suits it impeccably.

This painting is a still life with a minimalist, introspective mood, characterized by simplicity and muted tones, reminiscent of the still lifes of Modernist painter Giorgio Morandi.

A tall, dark glass bottle is centrally placed, with its subtle translucence hinting at texture. Three pears, varying in size and positioned around the bottle, add organic shapes to the otherwise geometric scene. The objects rest on a ledge or tabletop, which extends diagonally and leads the viewer’s eye toward the back of the space.

The setting is framed by a window or plain wall, with soft natural light illuminating the objects. The background is painted in light blue and grey tones, contrasting with the darker colours of the objects.

The painting is made up of a subdued colour palette of earthy greens, browns, blues, and greys. The lighting emphasizes subtle gradations in tone, enhancing the quiet and reflective atmosphere.

The brushwork is smooth and controlled, giving the painting a serene, balanced feeling. The style is reminiscent of classical still-life traditions but simplified for a modern aesthetic.

This work conveys a contemplative atmosphere, focusing on the interplay of light, shadow, and space.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary floater frame. Both the painting and frame are in excellent condition.

  • Harbour Front

    £550

    Available

Free shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

A charming harbour town scene painted in 2023 , by British artist Elaine Allender.

This quayside scene has been built up in layers of paper and paint. We see the village houses tumbling down to the quay, the old harbour walls and a couple of boats moored up on the sea. The painting is full of texture, and has some of the charming roughness associated with real harbours.

The upper half is dominated by rows of houses with varied shapes and sizes, featuring pitched roofs and small windows. The colour palette of the buildings includes soft blues, earthy browns, and muted creams, adding a rustic and weathered charm. The architectural details, like chimneys and rooflines, are rendered with textured brushstrokes, enhancing depth and realism. The water reflects the dock and buildings above, rendered in soft, blended tones of blue, peach, and grey, creating a shimmering, rippled effect. The sky occupies the top portion of the painting, featuring dynamic swirls of soft blues and creamy yellows, suggesting a bright, breezy day.

Bright orange buoy-like accents and lifebuoys add pops of colour, drawing attention to specific elements in the scene. The painting’s layered textures and varied strokes add a tactile quality that conveys the atmosphere of a working harbour.

Overall, the painting beautifully captures the essence of a quaint seaside village, with its blend of rustic charm, lively textures, and serene maritime elements.

The painting is bordered by a clean, lime-waxed wooden tray frame that complements the coastal theme. Both painting and frame are in excellent condition.

We see a layering of the harbourside houses with their gables and slate roofs, painted in a palette of blues, neutrals and terracottas, with pops of orange.  A stone quay runs horizontally across the lower part of the painting, connecting the village to the water.

  • Geometric Fun

    £380

    Available

Free shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

A very unique original abstract artwork, made up of paper that has painted, embroidered and then stitched together.

The paper has been stitched to create a three dimensional form that is mounted onto board and protected behind glass. The paper has been painted with an abstract composition using acrylic paint, and each alternating strip has been painted with different colours. As a result, the artwork changes depending on the angle from which it is viewed. If viewed from the right, we see a geometric patterning of red, black and yellow. When viewed from the left, a series of angled lines criss-cross across the lighter coloured surface. Although it is technically a static piece, we have in fact a very dynamic artwork that changes constantly. The paper itself has also been embroidered with an intricate pattern which gives it textured detail, visible when viewed closely.

The artwork is presented in a black frame and protected behind glass. It is in very good condition. Ready to hang.

A very large abstract painting by contemporary British artist Frances Daws, executed in acrylic onto canvas and dated 2024.
This Ground I’ve Walked, I’ve Walked Before is a reflection of a known landscape for Frances – the distinct yellow fields and green hills of England in summer. The painting has a beautifully composed complimentary poem (see below), which talks about how places stick within your very being. You may walk through places you never have before and yet find and feel a very real connection to the place and it’s steeped history.
This ground I’ve walked, I’ve walked before. I know it’s oddities, it’s dangling limbs, It’s buried roots, it’s ancient trees. Oak, elder, pine, we are all friends. I breathe it’s forests, eyes closed, hands open. I soak in it’s seas and run down it’s hills. It’s rooted within me, a lived history within every new step. I know this ground, I’ve walked it before.’
Painted on stretched canvas and with its edges painted in soft yellow, it can be hung as is, without a frame. The painting is in excellent condition. It comes with a certificate of authenticity and signature on the reverse.

  • A Snake in the Grass

    SOLD

A fun and edgy one-off original digitally manipulated monoprint sandwiched between a custom perspex frame, by British artist Olivia Bouzyk.

This is a digital monoprint (only one exists, it is original and one-of-a-kind) of a scanned in monoprint, which was digitally edited and manipulated. Through the digital editing process Olivia is able to have greater control over the specific colours and textures, emphasising the textural quality of the ink, increasing the scale and saturating the colours, creating a more dynamic dialogue between the lines, forms and colours.

The light qualities of the perspex frame (a frosted green back panel and a tinted clear yellow front) work with the colours within the piece, making the image seem different in every lighting condition. The coloured perspex frames reflect the playful approach Olivia takes when creating each piece. Everything she does is completely unique and different every time.

This composition explores juxtapositions, both formally and conceptually, between two different environments – the urban city and the rural countryside. The straight and angled lines allude to the urban cityscape, while the curved and more organic forms are remiscnent of the rolling countryside.  Olivia works with contrasts in line, colour and form and a sense of harmony is achieved by balancing this series of juxtapositions.

This digitally manipulated monoprint is presented within two layers of coloured perspex that are part of the artistic process.  The perspex frames are custom made to accompany the print that is in them – the colours of the front and back panels are chosen to compliment and work with the colours in the print. Spilt batons are on the reverse so it is easily attachable to the wall and they are positioned in all four directions on the reverse, so that you can choose the direction it is hung. Both frame and artwork are in excellent condition.
