Free shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

A charming mid-century landscape painting captures a tranquil outdoor scene featuring two female figures seated at a round table in a sunlit garden, executed in oil onto board.

Set against the backdrop of a soft beige house with a deep, shadowed doorway, the figures appear engaged in quiet conversation or shared activity, lending the composition a gentle narrative intimacy. The garden around them is lush and alive, with tall grasses in yellow-green hues and trees whose canopies are rendered in cool greens, blues and touches of deep teal, creating a vibrant interplay of colour and light.

Executed in a distinctly modernist style, the artist has employed simplified forms and expressive, confident brushstrokes. The palette leans toward harmonious earth tones, punctuated by cool blues and greens that evoke dappled shade and warm Mediterranean air. The brushwork is loose yet intentional, especially in the foliage, where strokes overlap to create texture and depth. The figures, though minimally detailed, are sensitively modelled through shape and colour, allowing their presence to feel both grounded and atmospheric.

Overall, this work offers a beautiful snapshot of leisurely outdoor life: serene, intimate, and rich with the warmth and colour characteristic of mid-century European painting.

This oil on board is presented in a complementary gilt frame with an inner cream and white border. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

  • The Blue Teapot

    The Blue Teapot

    £595

    Available

Free shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

A charming mid-century modern still life that distils everyday domestic objects into a harmonious study of form, light and colour, executed in oil onto canvas.

A wooden table supports a carefully balanced arrangement consisting of a striking dark blue teapot, a pale blue carton, and a tall white open box. Rather than striving for realism, the artist reduces the objects to confident geometric shapes, allowing the interplay of volume, shadow and negative space to become the true subject of the composition.

Executed in a distinctly modernist style, the painting demonstrates an appreciation for simplified structure and thoughtful spatial relationships. The elongated table legs and gently abstracted forms lend the work a subtle sense of rhythm, while broad planes of light and shadow create depth without unnecessary detail. The composition feels both deliberate and effortless, embodying the restrained elegance characteristic of European mid-century painting.

The colour palette is soft and beautifully balanced, combining  earthy browns and creamy ivory with cool passages of powder blue, slate grey and muted lavender. The dramatic teapot provides a bold focal point, its rich silhouette contrasting beautifully against the luminous background.

Brushwork is confident. Broad, flat applications of paint define the major forms, while visible directional brushstrokes impart texture and vitality across the tabletop, vessels and surrounding walls. The artist embraces the natural movement of the brush, allowing slight variations in tone and edge to soften the geometric composition. The resulting surface possesses both freshness and restraint.

This oil on canvas is presented in a complementary gilt framer with an inner linen border. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

  • The Green Ball

    The Green Ball

    £850

    Available

Free shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

A striking original mid century modernist composition, painted onto board and dated 1966 by the established Swedish artist Gunnar Hållander (1915-1980), whose artworks have been represented in public collections including the National Museum and Moderna Museet in Stockholm, the Sundsvall Museum and the Institut Tessinin in Paris.

A group of mostly unidentifiable objects sit on a black and white surface, with one green ball punctuating the centre of the composition. This still life leans towards abstraction, with the artist focusing on the forms of the objects and how the elements interact with one another. There is an invisible tension between the objects, as they push and pull against one another. However, there is a very balanced rhythm through the picture, encouraging us viewers to weave our view in and out, up and down and around the composition to explore the form of each object. The artist uses a restrained palette – the picture is almost monochrome, except for the green in the middle, which draws our eyes to the centre of the picture. There is a wonderful depth to the composition, as well as a very satisfying matte finish to the overall surface.

This oil on board is wonderfully presented in a distressed wood frame with an inner linen border. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has very light wear but this suits its overall distressed style.

    Size: 66 x 75 cm (including frame)

The sculpture seen in the photos is also available to purchase and details can be viewed here.

    £455

    Available

Free shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

A richly coloured and striking mid-century still life that presents a thoughtfully arranged grouping of domestic objects – a ceramic jug, cylindrical vessel, pears, lemons, and draped cloth – set upon a tabletop, executed in oil onto canvas.

Rather than pursuing realism, the artist has reduced each form into bold, interlocking shapes, creating a composition that feels both structured and expressive.

Executed in a modernist style with hints of Cubist influence, the painting emphasises colour, form, and spatial relationships over precise representation. Objects are simplified into geometric planes and outlined with confident contours, lending the composition a strong sense of rhythm and balance.

The palette is warm and earthy, dominated by rich ochres, burnt oranges, terracotta reds, and umber browns, enlivened by accents of lemon yellow, turquoise, and pale blue. These contrasting colours create visual energy while maintaining an overall harmony that is characteristic of mid-century modernist painting.

Brushwork is broad and assured, with visible, painterly strokes that build form through blocks of colour rather than fine detail. The surface retains a pleasing immediacy, allowing the artist’s hand to remain evident throughout.

This oil on canvas is presented in a complementary warm honey-toned wood frame with a stepped profile. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

A soothing and very pleasant mid-century modernist style still life that presents a luminous arrangement of flowers and fruit, executed in oil onto board.

At the centre, a white ceramic vase holds a lively bouquet of blossoms: soft blue, deep red, vivid yellow and indigo – set against a dramatic background of shadowed navy and pale grey. The floral forms are loosely defined yet full of character, capturing the spontaneity and freshness of a moment observed.

Below, an assortment of apples, plums and a single green pear are scattered casually across the tabletop. Their rounded forms and warm tones create a pleasing counterbalance to the vertical elegance of the vase. A patterned drape in soft blue with warm rust-orange accents adds depth and a gentle theatricality to the composition.

The palette is harmonious and inviting: cool blues and greys contrasted with bright fruit tones and fresh greens. Brushstrokes are expressive but controlled, with soft blending in the background and more decisive, painterly marks in the flowers and fruit. The overall effect is one of warmth, vibrancy and quiet domestic charm – an appealing example of mid-century still-life painting that brings both colour and calm to any interior.

  • Yellow Posies

    £50

    Available

Free shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

This 1976 textile artwork is a warm, handwoven tapestry that captures the quiet beauty of nature through a distinctly 1970s Scandinavian modernist sensibility.

Depicting a cluster of stylised yellow and ochre blossoms, the piece radiates a gentle autumnal glow. The flowers — rendered in tonal variations of golden yellow, mustard, and amber — are scattered rhythmically across a richly textured brown background. Subtle greens emerge from below, suggesting stems and foliage, grounding the composition with natural balance.

The artist’s approach is both abstract and organic: the blooms are simplified to essential rounded forms, their soft edges blending harmoniously into the earthy backdrop. The interplay between light and dark tones gives the flowers a quiet luminescence, as though illuminated by late afternoon sunlight.

Mounted neatly on a neutral linen border, the tapestry exudes an understated elegance. Its palette of browns, yellows, and greens evokes a deep connection to the natural world — a hallmark of Scandinavian textile art from the era, where craftsmanship and nature coexisted seamlessly.

Containing elements of abstraction, the artist reduces each object to simplified geometric forms, creating a harmonious balance between shape, colour, and space.

  • Green Vessels & House Form

    Green Vessels & House Form

    Sold

    SOLD

A brilliantly executed and richly textured modernist still life oil composition that balances domestic familiarity with a subtle sense of abstraction, painted by the established Swedish artist Max Gregor Carlsson (1914-1996), whose works have been exhibited in public collections including the Malmö Museum, Eskilstuna Art Museum, Ystads Museum, Norrköping City Collection, and the Landskrona Konsthall.

At the centre, a pair of elongated green vessels: a bottle and a handled jug, stand side by side on a tabletop, their simplified silhouettes echoed by a stylised white house form rising behind them. A small red circular object rests in the foreground, offering a gentle focal contrast and anchoring the composition.

The arrangement feels both intimate and architectural, with the tabletop and surrounding planes constructed in flattened, geometric blocks. There’s a careful interplay between interior and exterior elements – the house motif blurs the boundary between still life and landscape.

The palette is restrained yet expressive: muted greens and teal tones dominate, softened by warm off-whites and earthy browns, with touches of terracotta and a single note of deep red adding warmth and rhythm. The colours are slightly desaturated, lending the work a calm, contemplative mood.

Brushwork is deliberate and textural, with visible, layered strokes that give the surface a tactile, almost sculptural quality. Edges are gently defined rather than sharply outlined, allowing forms to breathe within the composition. The paint handling suggests confidence and restraint, with subtle variations in tone and thickness bringing depth to otherwise simplified forms.

Overall, this is a thoughtfully balanced piece that captures the essence of mid-century still life through its harmony of form, colour, and structure.

This oil on canvas is presented in a charming, rustic wooden frame that has a gently distressed, whitewashed finish. The painting has some light craquelure due to the thickness of the paint, but it remains in very stable condition overall.

The objects are simplified and slightly flattened, outlined with confident dark contours that give them a sculptural presence. Around them, angular planes and overlapping shapes create a quiet architectural backdrop, lending structure and balance to the composition while subtly shifting the sense of depth.

Executed in a modernist style with cubist leanings, the work embraces reduction and clarity over realism. £445

    Available

Free shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

A gentle and delicate mid-century interior still life composition that unfolds around an open window, where soft daylight filters through sheer curtains and gently illuminates a vase of freshly cut tulips, executed in oil onto canvas.

The scene captures a quiet, intimate domestic moment while the blurred greenery beyond the window hints at a tranquil garden just outside. The composition balances stillness and life, with the flowers acting as the focal point against the airy, light-filled backdrop.

Executed in a mid-century modern painterly style, the work leans toward a soft impressionistic approach. Forms are gently simplified rather than sharply defined, allowing atmosphere and mood to take precedence over precision. There is a delicate interplay between interior and exterior space, achieved through loose rendering and subtle layering.

The palette is light, fresh, and calming – dominated by soft whites, pale greens, and muted blush pinks. Hints of cool blue-grey in the window frames and shadows add depth, while the tulips introduce gentle warmth without overpowering the composition. The overall tonality is airy and luminous, evoking early morning light.

Brushwork is soft and fluid, with light, feathery strokes that create a sense of translucency, particularly in the curtains and glass. The flowers are rendered with slightly more definition, using loose yet confident strokes to suggest form without rigidity. The background remains intentionally diffuse, with blended strokes that enhance the painting’s dreamy, atmospheric quality.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary slim silver frame.  There are tiny areas of craquelure present on the petals, consistent with age. However, the paint layer is stable and this does not detract from the overall delicacy and charm of the composition and the painting is otherwise in good vintage condition.

A very pleasant and meticulously painted mid-century still life that captures a potted begonia arranged beside a small plate of apples, set against a softly lit interior backdrop, and executed in oil onto board and dated 1949.

The composition feels intimate and unpretentious. An everyday moment elevated through careful observation and painterly sensitivity. The broad, rounded leaves of the begonia fan outward with a gentle rhythm, some tinged with warm russet reds, while delicate pink blossoms rise lightly above, adding a subtle vertical lift. To the right, some apples rest on a simple plate, grounding the composition and introducing a quiet sense of balance.

The painting leans toward a softened realism with expressive undertones. Forms are simplified yet thoughtfully modelled, with an emphasis on structure and tonal harmony rather than strict detail. The artist shows a clear sensitivity to light and volume, particularly in the way the leaves catch and diffuse illumination.

The palette is warm and inviting: earthy greens and olive tones dominate the foliage, contrasted by soft coral reds and blush pinks in the flowers. The pears introduce muted yellow-greens, while the tabletop in a warm, buttery yellow adds a gentle luminosity. The background shifts subtly between pale blue-grey and cream, creating depth without distraction.

Brushwork is confident yet restrained, with visible strokes that lend texture and vitality to the surface. The leaves are articulated with layered, directional strokes that suggest their waxy structure, while the pot and fruit are handled with slightly broader, more blended applications. Throughout, the paint is applied with a tactile quality , neither overly thick nor overly smooth, resulting in a balanced, expressive finish.

This oil on board is housed in a complementary wood frame, and subtle inner silver and champagne windows. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

A vibrant mid-century modern still life painted in oil by the established Swedish artist Bengt Orup (1916–1996), whose works are held in major international collections including Moderna Museet and National Museum in Stockholm, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Tessin Institute in Paris, and many more.

The composition presents two sculptural black vessels arranged before a window. One holds a radiant sunflower rendered in a bold, simplified form, while the other cradles stylised fruit, depicted as faceted geometric shapes. Through the window behind them, a small red and green landscape appear, adding a quiet narrative element that contrasts with the graphic interior setting. Framing the scene are striking red-and-white horizontal stripes, creating a rhythmic backdrop that energises the composition and draws the eye inward.

Orup’s modernist approach reduces objects to strong geometric silhouettes and carefully balanced shapes. The palette is vivid yet controlled: deep black vessels anchor the composition against bright sunflower yellow, warm reds, fresh greens and cool greys. Brushstrokes are deliberate and confident, with smooth, flat planes of colour and subtle texture that emphasise clarity, structure and design.

The result is a playful yet sophisticated still life that merges interior, landscape and abstraction which are hallmarks of Orup’s distinctive mid-century visual language.

This oil on board is presented in a warm gilt wooden frame with an inner border, which beautifully complements the painting’s bold palette. The painting has some light craquelure present to its paint surface, but it is very stable and consistent with the age of the work, and does not detract from the overall visual appeal.

  • Lavender & Fruit

    Lavender & Fruit

    £515

    Available

Free shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

A joyful radiant mid-century interior still life that captures a sunlit window scene in full bloom, executed in oil onto canvas.

In the foreground, a tall turquoise glass jug brims with freshly cut lavender, its lilac blossoms arching gently outward. Resting beside it on the windowsill are three ripe fruit, their warm red and golden tones offering a rich counterpoint to the cool palette that surrounds them. Beyond the glass, lush greenery presses against the pane, suggesting a garden just beyond the interior space.

Executed in a lively, expressive mid-century style, the forms are loosely defined yet confidently structured, with simplified shapes and a focus on colour harmony over strict realism. The vertical and horizontal lines of the window frame anchor the scene, creating a subtle geometric structure within the organic abundance of foliage and flowers.

The colour palette is fresh and invigorating. Layers of turquoise, teal and aqua dominate the setting, punctuated by flashes of lemon yellow and spring green in the background foliage. The lavender blooms are rendered in soft purples, dusty pinks and touches of white, while the fruit introduce warmth through saturated reds and amber highlights. This interplay of cool and warm tones gives the painting a dynamic, sunlit energy.

Brushstrokes are bold, textured and gestural, applied with visible confidence. Thick impasto passages define the petals and leaves, while broader, sweeping strokes animate the background. The paint surface has a tactile quality, with layered strokes that catch the light and enhance the sense of immediacy and movement.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary slim silver painted wood frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has some scuffs.

  • The Figs

    The Figs

    £495

    Available

Free shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

A poised mid-century still life that presents a quietly architectural composition, executed in oil onto board.

This composition centres on three deep green figs resting in a shallow tray. Behind them rises a stylised facade, a simplified portico with an arched window and triangular pediment rendered in flattened planes of muted blush, sage and cream.

The style reflects a distinctly mid-century sensibility: pared back, structured, and contemplative. Forms are simplified into essential shapes of ovals, triangles, rectangles, and the architectural backdrop introduces a sense of order and symmetry, contrasting beautifully with the organic curves of the figs.

The palette is restrained and harmonious. Moss greens and olive tones dominate the fruit, offset by chalky whites, dusty rose, pale yellow and cool grey-blues in the surrounding space. Light appears to enter from the side, casting gentle shadows that anchor the composition and add depth without disrupting its calm balance.

Brushstrokes are confident and visible, with a slightly dry, textured application that allows the canvas weave to subtly show through. The paint is layered in broad, deliberate strokes – particularly in the background – while the figs themselves are modelled with softer blending, giving them a quiet solidity and presence.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary  wide profile gilt frame.  Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

  • Pear Arrangement

    Pear Arrangement

    £945

    Available

Free shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

A charming and characterful interior still life composition executed in tempera on board and dated 1978, by the established Swedish artist Eric Cederberg (1897-1984), whose artworks have been represented in several public and museum collections across Sweden.

Small yet very effective in its composition, this still life presents a carefully arranged grouping of pears, a ceramic vessel, and a jug rendered with clarity, charm, and a distinctly modern sensibility. The composition centres on two luminous green pears nestled in a scalloped turquoise bowl, accompanied by a fourth pear in the foreground and a halved pear resting nearby. To the right, a sculptural brown jug anchors the scene with a grounded solidity, while a single stylised leaf rises elegantly from a pear against a radiant golden backdrop, dotted with rhythmic points of light.

The artist has employed a flattened perspective, where spatial depth is secondary to shape, balance, and decorative harmony. Forms are simplified into bold silhouettes and geometric masses, giving each object a sculptural presence. The background is thoughtfully divided into zones of warm gold, soft neutral tones, and rich terracotta red, creating a structured yet lively interplay between colour fields.

The palette is vibrant yet controlled, featuring fresh green pears contrasted against a warm, earthy table surface and a glowing mustard-gold backdrop. The cool turquoise of the bowl provides a refreshing counterpoint, while the deep brown jug introduces tonal weight and balance. The dotted golden background adds a playful, almost textile-like quality, enhancing the painting’s decorative appeal.

Executed in tempera, the brushwork is smooth and precise, with a matte, velvety surface typical of the medium. Edges are clean and deliberate, emphasising contour and form rather than painterly gesture. Subtle tonal variations within the pears and jug provide volume without disrupting the overall graphic clarity. The result is a work that feels both intimate and confidently composed – celebrating everyday objects through the lens of mid-century design, where simplicity, colour, and form coexist in harmonious balance.

This tempera on board is presented in a beautifully complementary gilt frame with a deep profile, and with a striking green velvet inner border that creates a strong visual contrast. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has some marks present to its top edge as shown.

    Free UK Shipping Only.

A large and striking contemporary painting that presents a vibrant Japanese-themed still life celebrating the ritual of sushi and sake, executed in acrylic onto canvas and dated 2003.

Four boldly coloured fish are arranged in a neat horizontal line across a yellow tabletop, evoking the careful presentation of sushi before it is served. They are accompanied by a sake bottle, matching cups, chopsticks, and a small dish of rice, creating a scene that feels ceremonial, abundant, and quietly joyful.

The composition draws on Japanese visual traditions while remaining distinctly modern. Forms are simplified and stylised, with a graphic clarity that recalls both folk art and mid-century illustration. Decorative foliage frames the scene, adding movement and balance while subtly referencing nature.

The colour palette is striking and playful. Rich reds, cobalt blue, deep forest green, and warm golden yellow are set against a soft sky-blue background and a creamy, sunlit tabletop. The high-contrast colours give the work a lively, contemporary energy, while black and white accents ground the composition and provide visual rhythm.

Brushstrokes are smooth and controlled, with flat, even applications of paint that emphasise form over texture. Fine line details and dotted highlights bring gentle depth and refinement to the surface without breaking the clean, graphic quality of the work. The overall effect is bold yet harmonious, a modern homage to Japanese dining culture, celebration, and shared moments at the table.

This artwork on canvas is housed in a complementary white floater frame. The painting has some very minor surface marks that are commensurate with age and do not detract from the overall composition.

  • Lily of the Valley & Jug

Lily of the Valley & Jug

    £775

    Available

Free shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

A refined contemporary still life that presents a carefully orchestrated arrangement of everyday forms rendered with clarity and restraint, executed in oil onto board.

At the centre rests a tall ceramic jug in warm earthy tones of chocolate brown and muted taupe, its simplified silhouette outlined in confident dark contours. Beside it lies a single slice of pale green fruit, its circular form offering a gentle counterpoint to the vertical presence of the vessel.

In the foreground, a sprig of lily of the valley stretches gracefully across a bold orange rectangular dish. The delicate white blossoms and rich green leaves introduce an organic softness, their gentle curves and natural rhythm contrasting beautifully with the structured geometry of the surrounding objects. Behind them, subtle blocks of beige, cream, and soft grey form a quiet architectural backdrop, suggesting interior space without distraction.

Stylistically, the painting draws on contemporary modernist sensibilities, where representation is simplified and forms are reduced to their essential shapes. The composition balances geometry and nature, solidity and delicacy, creating a sense of stillness and introspection. The palette is restrained yet expressive – warm neutrals, earthy browns, and muted greens punctuated by the confident accent of yellow – evoking both warmth and compositional clarity.

The brushwork is controlled and deliberate, with smooth, even applications of paint that emphasise form over texture. Clean edges and defined contours reinforce the structural integrity of each object, while subtle tonal shifts within the surfaces add depth and quiet dimensionality. The result is a refined and contemplative work, celebrating the quiet beauty found in simple arrangements and everyday objects.

This oil on board is housed in a beautiful wood frame with gently recessed inner mouldings and a delicate carved detail that runs along the inner border. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has some scuffs as shown.

  • Still Life with Mountain View

    Still Life with Mountain View

    £550

    Available

Free shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

An evocative mid-century still life that presents a quiet interior moment set against a distant landscape,  painted in oil onto board.

In the foreground, a tabletop arrangement of fruit: a crescent slice of watermelon, a rounded green melon, and a dark plum sits alongside a simple tumbler, all positioned before an open window with shuttered sides. Beyond the window, a sparse rural scene unfolds: whitewashed buildings, rolling fields, and softly contoured mountains receding into a muted horizon. The composition gently balances interior intimacy with exterior openness, inviting the viewer to linger between the domestic and the expansive.

Stylistically, the work reflects classic mid-century modern sensibilities: simplified forms, flattened perspective, and a deliberate restraint in detail. The palette is calm and earthy – dusty greys, sage and olive greens, soft blues, and chalky whites – punctuated by the gentle blush pink of the watermelon flesh, which acts as a subtle focal point. Darker tones around the window frame and tabletop anchor the composition and create a sense of enclosure.

The brushwork is expressive yet controlled. Broad, matte strokes define planes and objects, while visible brush marks lend the surface a tactile, painterly quality. Edges are softly articulated rather than sharply drawn, contributing to the work’s contemplative mood.

This oil on board is housed in a complementary wood frame with an inner linen lining. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has some scuffs.
