  • Roosters

    £305

    Available

Free Shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

A truly striking and vibrant scene of a pair of roosters set within an expressive landscape dotted with trees and other animals. This painting has an exceptional three dimensional quality to it, with very thickly applied brightly coloured oils on the canvas. The artist has caked on the paint and has then shaped it, not using a brush, but with a palette and fingers.  Here the artist has used the paint not simply to depict part of the picture, but to be part of the picture. These techniques are reminiscent of modernist artists such as Vincent Van Gogh, whose use of paint was often pronounced and dramatic, as is the case with this painting.

The scene taking place has much to offer, with other animals appearing in unexpected places. Every aspect of this picture has been given a life of its own – the swirls of the trees, the dynamic strokes of the sky, the comma like stabs of the grass. Wonderful contrasts of colour and different forms of paint applications lend a sense of depth, and create such an array of interesting features to notice.

This oil on stretched canvas is in excellent vintage condition. It is unframed but can be hung as is.

  • Altea

    £530

Free shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

A brilliantly executed semi-abstract mid century modernist oil composition, painted in 1959 by the established Swedish artist Ivar Morsing (1919-2009), whose works have been exhibited in public collections including the National Museum in Stockholm, Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Kalmar Museum and Jönköping Museum.

In this composition we can see two figures, each sitting on a donkey. There is an inscription on the reverse which locates the scene to Altea, in Spain. Morsing has abstracted the figures and animals, using a restrained palette of black, green, yellow and white, and omitting all realistic detail. • Etruscan Horse

    Sold

    SOLD

A beautifully crafted Etruscan horse sculpture, handmade in patinated bronze.

This bronze sculpture is a minimalist and abstract representation of a figure riding a two-wheeled chariot pulled by a stylized horse. The rider has an elongated, simplified human form with minimal facial features. One arm is raised, holding what appears to be a small object, while the other arm extends forward to hold the reins. The figure wears a headpiece or helmet, giving it an ancient or warrior-like appearance.

The horse is depicted in a highly stylized and geometric form. Its head is elongated and curves downward, and it has a pronounced, comb-like mane extending over the head and neck. The horse’s body is reduced to essential shapes, with slender, angular legs suggesting movement.

The chariot is composed of two large, spoked wheels with a minimalist frame connecting the rider and the horse. The wheels are circular with four spokes each, adding to the abstract, geometric aesthetic. The structure is open and linear, emphasizing simplicity over detail.

Made of bronze, the sculpture has a dark, aged patina that enhances its ancient and timeless feel. The surface is slightly rough, contributing to its handcrafted, archaic quality.

This sculpture combines ancient motifs with modern abstraction, portraying a rider on a horse-drawn chariot in a highly stylized and minimalist form. The piece evokes a sense of historical significance while celebrating clean, geometric design, blending tradition with modern artistic expression.

It is in very good vintage condition.

  • Sheep in Winter

    Sold

    SOLD

A seemingly simple yet very effective oil painting that explores the concepts of minimalism and abstraction, executed in oil onto canvas.

The artwork depicts a group of sheep situated in what we can discern to be a snow-filled landscape setting, where all forms presented are spontaneously outlined in thin black lines.

Upon first glance, this work may be recognised for its childlike simplicity. However as we take time to explore the painting further, we notice that the artist has thoughtfully chosen to eliminate non essentials – focusing our attention to the beautiful essence of colour, unrestrained brushwork, as well as the qualities of lines that may come across as simplistic but inherently powerful enough to give rise to forms.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary slim gilt frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has minor scuffs but this does not detract from the overall appearance.

  • Home Studio

    SOLD

An expressive and brilliantly detailed mid-century composition of an interior setting, executed in oil onto canvas.

The setting takes place in a wonderfully ‘lived-in’ home studio, with an interesting array of objects, furniture and artist tools depicted within picture. Painted in an expressionist manner, the artist’s brushstrokes are short and swift, lending an energetic and spontaneous quality to the piece. The loose style of painting further emphasises the immediacy of the moment captured.
