Horse Riders

A brilliantly executed semi-abstract oil composition painted in 1963 by the established Swedish artist Ivar Morsing (1919-2009), whose works have been exhibited in public collections including the National Museum in Stockholm, Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Kalmar Museum, and Jönköping Museum.

The composition presents 2 figures riding horses in a desert landscape. Painted in a semi-abstract style, the artist’s deliberate omission of realistic details encourages viewers to focus on the overall atmospheric ambiance, as well as on the beauty of brushstroke and colour.

The use of painterly and expressive brushstrokes creates a sense of energy throughout the painting. And the clever use of a limited colour palette of rich browns, blue, and black tones in subtle variations not only helps to unify the composition and create depth and three-dimensionality, but also a warm and earthy atmosphere

This oil on board is housed in a well-suited silver frame with an inner linen border. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has some light scuffing and wear.
