Spanish Morning
SOLD.
A brilliantly executed semi-abstract oil composition, painted in 1959 by the established Swedish artist Ivar Morsing (1919-2009), whose works have been exhibited in public collections including the National Museum in Stockholm, Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Kalmar Museum, and Jönköping Museum.
The composition presents 3 figures strolling through the Old Town of Altea in Spain. Painted in a semi-abstract style, the artist’s deliberate omission of realistic details encourages viewers to focus on the overall atmospheric ambiance, as well as on brushstroke and colour.
The use of painterly and expressive brushstrokes creates a sense of energy throughout the painting, and the clever use of rich colours in lighter and darker shades helps to unify the composition and create depth.
This oil on board is housed in a complementary gilt frame with an inner linen window. The frame has some scuffing to the corners and the linen window has some age spots, but the appearance is still very good. The painting is in excellent vintage condition
