Toreador

SOLD.

A striking mid-century modernist composition, executed in oil onto board.

A matador, exquisitely dressed in a tailored suit adorned with intricate patterns, stands confidently in the center of the arena as he holds a red muleta and is faced with a bull.

Behind them, a sea of indistinguishable yet well-dressed onlookers are present. Their silhouettes blend together, emphasizing their role as collective spectators rather than individuals. The absence of facial detailing allows the viewer to focus on the spectacle unfolding in the arena.

The colour palette used in this well-executed painting is rich and saturated. These bold colours infuse the scene with energy and reflect the artist’s desire to evoke strong emotions and create visual impact.

This oil on board is housed in its original mid-century linen lined frame with an inner and outer wood window. There is a little age toning to the linen border, and the frame’s corner joins have widened slightly. However the appearance is still very good and the frame is stable. The painting is in excellent vintage condition. Please note that there is some glare in some of the photos due to the shiny finish on the piece.
