An expressive and brilliantly detailed mid-century composition of an interior setting, executed in oil onto canvas.

The setting takes place in a wonderfully ‘lived-in’ home studio, with an interesting array of objects, furniture and artist tools depicted within picture. Painted in an expressionist manner, the artist’s brushstrokes are short and swift, lending an energetic and spontaneous quality to the piece. The loose style of painting further emphasises the immediacy of the moment captured. Although no one is present in the scene, there is a sense the artist has only just left and will return shortly – his or her palette is still visible with paint on, a pot of brushstrokes on the table behind, and a chair immediately in the front of the table.  On the left, we also get a glimpse of a view outside the studio.

The artist has used a rich and uplifting colour palette, adding a lively feel to the work. Each object is represented with a spectrum of colours, enhancing their three-dimensional forms and inviting the viewer to explore their detail.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary gilt frame with an inner linen border. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has very minor scuffs.
