A finely executed mid-century modernist painting of an interior setting, executed in oil onto board and dated 1954.

This skilful painting captures a elegant but homely sitting room, furnished with a sofa, armchairs, and a carpet. The walls of the living room are adorned with a collection of paintings that add character and artistic charm to the space.

The artist has skilfully used a limited and subdued palette, predominantly consisting gentle shades of white, cream, and brown. The overall atmosphere exudes an inviting warmth and serenity. The use of short and expressive brushstrokes adds depth and dimension to the various elements in the room, allowing the viewer to appreciate the subtle interplay of light and shadow. The artist shows off his mastery by capturing the most intricate details in an impressionist style, such as the flowers on the coffee table as well as the objects atop the cabinet on the right.

This oil on board is housed in a very elegant  gilt frame with an inner white and gilt window. The painting is in excellent vintage condition. The frame has slight widening to the top right and bottom left joins but overall the appearance is still very good.
