The Shepherd
SOLD.
A restful mid-century landscape composition, executed in oil onto board by the established Swedish artist Eric Elfvén (1921–2008), whose works have been exhibited in public collections including the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Jönköping Museum, Borås Art Museum, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
A magnificent lush green tree punctuates the center of the painting, dominating the canvas and drawing our immediate attention to it. Beneath the shade of the tree, a shepherd is seated, accompanied by a small flock of sheep grazing peacefully. They are sat on a vast expanse of light yellow fields that stretches into the distance.
The artist has used a combination of expressive as well as soft brushstrokes, and together with the gentle colours, the painting evokes a sense of contentment and restfulness.
This oil on board is housed in a complementary slim gilt frame. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
