A Place Beyond Reach II

Painted in a rich, earthy palette of olive greens, soft sage, muted blues and warm ochres, this piece captures the gentle undulations of the landscape through loose, expressive brushstrokes and overlapping layers of colour. A cluster of slender tree forms rises from the hillside, giving the composition a lovely sense of structure, while the surrounding fields and valleys flow into one another in a wonderfully organic way.

As with much of Frances’ work, the landscape isn’t intended to represent one particular place, but rather a collection of memories and impressions gathered from different countryside views. There’s something wonderfully familiar about it, as though it could be a little corner of the countryside you’ve passed through on a walk or a drive.

Despite its small size, the painting has plenty of depth, texture and character. Beautifully presented in a generous white St Ives-style frame, which gives the artwork room to breathe and makes it feel like a much more substantial piece.

A charming, quietly expressive painting that brings a little piece of the countryside indoors.

Both painting and frame are in excellent condition.
