River Pasture

A uplifting mid-century modernist painting that captures a serene riverside landscape through a bold and semi-abstracted lens, executed in oil onto board.

A winding river flows through rolling hills with lush greenery. In the foreground, a black ox pulls a yellow cart, accompanied by a small human figure. A tall yellow structure and a ladder-like form in the foreground creates a strong vertical element, adding a sense of depth and intrigue to the composition.

The painting is executed in a modernist, semi-abstract style – as the forms are simplified and fragmented, emphasising shape and structure over detailed realism.

A harmonious palette of muted greens and blues dominate the composition, punctuated by the yellow of the structure and cart, as well as the warm red of the barn. The colour blocking technique creates a rhythmic and balanced visual experience.

The artist has used  bold, deliberate strokes. And the  brushwork is expressive yet controlled, with visible texture and layering adding depth to the flat planes of colour.

This oil on board is housed in a complementary champagne painted wood frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has minor scuffing.
