    Set against a richly coloured background, this affectionate composition depicts two figures standing closely beside each other, with the taller figure placing her hand around the shoulder of the shorter figure.     Deep and rich planes of colours fill the canvas, with angular forms and distinct lines building up into a semi abstract portrait. We see the figure in side profile, arms and legs in the midst of movement.  The artist teases our eye – we are unable to discern where her dress and legs end, and where the background begins. Angled planes of white surrounding the figure illuminate her  upper body, skilfully narrowing our eyes towards the main figure, before then dispersing as the body and background become indistinguishable.

    A small and poignant mid century figurative oil portrait by the well-establish Swedish artist Ivar Morsing (1919-2009), whose works have been exhibited in public collections including the National Museum in Stockholm, Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Kalmar Museum and Jönköping Museum.

    Executed in a semi-abstract manner, the composition presents a seated figure who is at rest. The artist has left out all realistic detail, using gentle yet expressive brushwork, and there is an overall softness to the way he has captured the scene. Despite the use of the very restrained warm colour palette, the artist has very skilfully imbued the painting with a luminosity, which is further enhanced by the gilt frame that surrounds it.

    This oil on canvas board is housed in a complementary gilt frame. The frame corners have a few small losses, but overall the painting and frame are in very good vintage condition.

    A lively and striking modernist style street scene composition of Barcelona, painted in oil onto canvas and dated 1966.

    In this well-coloured composition that has a strong focus on colour, we can discern figures strolling through a bustling promenade lined with trees on both sides. The explosion of colours thoughtfully reflects the lively atmosphere and energetic mood of the scene.

    Painted with a modernist ethos and containing hints of abstraction, the artist has reconstructed the scene down to flat blocks of contrasting shades to create a sense of space and depth, beautifully composing an almost puzzle-like composition with different sized geometric shapes fitting together.

    This oil on canvas comes unframed. The painting is in excellent vintage condition.
