  • Flux

    £495

    Available

Free UK, Europe & Singapore shipping.

A wonderfully rhythmic mid century abstract composition, painted onto board.

We get a distinct sense that the artist is painting a visual manifestation of a type of movement or motion. The artist has eliminated all naturalistic forms, concentrating instead on the trajectory and direction of the movements. The painting has a limited palette of white, black, grey and green, putting a stark emphasis on the synthesis that the artist achieves with the looped, flowing and intertwined curves. He is perhaps suggesting the passage of time as well as movement in space.

This acrylic on board is housed in its original silver frame with red undertones. There are minor stains on the top left on the painting, but the piece is in very good vintage condition overall. There are minor scuffs to the frame.

  • Geometric Pathway

    £550

    Available

Free shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

A bold and striking mid-century abstract landscape composition, painted in oil onto canvas and dated 1958.

The painting presents an interpretation of trees and a pathway, set against a backdrop of sky and fields. Containing elements of cubism as well as geometric abstraction, this landscape scene has been skilfully deconstructed and reduced into angular and geometric shapes, as well as bold lines.

The colour palette is restrained – with earthy shades of greens contrasting with cool tones of blues.

The brushstrokes are deliberate and flat, emphasising form and shape, and allowing the viewer’s eye to focus on the interplay of colour and geometry.

This oil on canvas is housed in a well-suited light blue painted wood frame. The painting has very small areas of paint loss on its left side as shown in the photos, but this is only noticeable upon close inspection. The frame has some general scuffing  as shown in the close ups.

  • Geometric Interplay

    £850

    Available

Free shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

An outstanding mid-century modernist style composition, executed in oil and dated 1954.

Characterised by its use of geometric abstraction, the painting is structured around overlapping geometric shapes—semi-circles, circles, triangles, and rectangles—creating a dynamic interplay of forms.

The dominant colours are cool tones like blues, greens, and teals, unified with warmer accents of muted orange and yellow. This palette creates a sense of calm and balance.

The brushwork is smooth with visible layering and blending of colours, as each shade transitions seamlessly from one shade to the next.

By deliberately leaving areas of the canvas unoccupied, the artist has skilfully utilised negative space to emphasise the geometric forms and draws attention to the boundaries between each element.

This oil on canvas has been laid onto board, and is housed in a complementary slim wood frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has some scuffing.

A bold and richly textured modernist interior scene composition, painted in oil onto canvas the established Swedish artist Max Gregor Carlsson (1914-1996), whose works have been exhibited in public collections including the Malmö Museum, Eskilstuna Art Museum, Ystads Museum, Norrköping City Collection, the Landskrona Konsthall.

Executed in an expressive manner, the composition depicts a home interior setting of a room, and an open window presenting a view outside as well as being a light source casting angled shadows across the floor and walls.

The colour palette is subdued, consisting primarily of earthy tones—dark greens, muted oranges, and beige hues as well as contrasting dark shades of brown and black. These colours give a calm, almost melancholic feel to the piece.

  • The Cockerel

    £555

A brilliantly executed mid-century modernist style still life composition, painted in oil onto board by the established Swedish artist Richard Björklund (1897–1974) whose works have been exhibited in public collections including the National Museum in Stockholm, Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Malmo Museum, Ystads Art Museum, and others.

This painting portrays a tabletop scene with what appears to be a cockerel figurine, a pot, as well as a bottle.

  • Essence of Objects

    £565

    Available

An oustanding mid-century still life composition in the style of abstract expressionism, executed in oil onto canvas.

The composition is filled with loosely defined everyday objects, whereby the artist has reimagined them as abstract shapes and forms. The arrangement is dense, giving the painting a sense of fullness.

  • Geometric Fun

    £380

    Available

Free shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

A very unique original abstract artwork, made up of paper that has painted, embroidered and then stitched together.

The paper has been stitched to create a three dimensional form that is mounted onto board and protected behind glass. The paper has been painted with an abstract composition using acrylic paint, and each alternating strip has been painted with different colours. As a result, the artwork changes depending on the angle from which it is viewed. If viewed from the right, we see a geometric patterning of red, black and yellow. When viewed from the left, a series of angled lines criss-cross across the lighter coloured surface. Although it is technically a static piece, we have in fact a very dynamic artwork that changes constantly. The paper itself has also been embroidered with an intricate pattern which gives it textured detail, visible when viewed closely.

The artwork is presented in a black frame and protected behind glass. It is in very good condition. Ready to hang.

  • Pair of Oils

    £1,200

    Available

Free shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

An engaging and powerful pair of abstract compositions by British contemporary artist Lloyd Durling, painted in oil onto linen board. Each signed, titled and dated 2024 on reverse.

Central to these paintings are an intense engagement with oil on linen that explores the interface between painting, drawing and collage. There is a balance between expressive play and tight control and with this comes an expanse of associations that push beyond simple categorisations of abstraction or scale. The information in each painting, given by gesture or mark, is reduced to a fleeting register on the surface, as if each mark has to count.

The idea of topography is of central importance and is explored through continuing walking projects. These serve as opportunities to gather diverse source material through physical and emotional interactions with whichever environment chosen to traverse. It amounts to a kind of urban and rural wandering where the information gathered is reinterpreted or reimagined feeding into a deep connection with landscape, arrangements of ancient monuments, light, shadow and forgotten histories – all of these elements find a way into the work.

Both paintings are oil on linen board and housed in a complementary walnut stained oak frame. Both the paintings and frames are in excellent condition. Each one of these is a one-off unique hand painted piece, so the pair will be available until any one of the pieces is purchased individually. If you prefer to buy an individual piece, you can do so here.

Size: Each one measures 50 x 40 cm (including frame)

Lloyd Durling is a British artist working in London. His practice is painting-based and he has exhibited widely throughout Europe, U.S.A and Asia. In 2017 he was awarded a Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant. Works are held in both public and private collections worldwide.

  • Grounded

    £450

    Available

Free shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

A wonderfully executed mid century modernist abstract composition in oil, painted onto canvas.

In this atmospheric composition, the artist has applied the paint thickly, creating lots of areas of impasto (where the paint stands proud from the surface) and variation in texture. Depicting what appears to be a rural landscape, the lower section of the painting has richer, earthier colours in broad sweeping brushstrokes . This juxtaposes against the lighter top half of the painting which has been painted in a mixture of white and lilac, with hints of blue underneath, alluding to the depth of layers within the painting.

There is a really earthy quality to the piece, and its abstract subject makes it an easy fit into most interiors.

The painting is housed in a silver leaf wood frame. Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

A very large abstract painting by contemporary British artist Frances Daws, executed in acrylic onto canvas and dated 2024.
This Ground I’ve Walked, I’ve Walked Before is a reflection of a known landscape for Frances – the distinct yellow fields and green hills of England in summer. The painting has a beautifully composed complimentary poem (see below), which talks about how places stick within your very being. You may walk through places you never have before and yet find and feel a very real connection to the place and it’s steeped history.
This ground I’ve walked, I’ve walked before. I know it’s oddities, it’s dangling limbs, It’s buried roots, it’s ancient trees. Oak, elder, pine, we are all friends. I breathe it’s forests, eyes closed, hands open. I soak in it’s seas and run down it’s hills. It’s rooted within me, a lived history within every new step. I know this ground, I’ve walked it before.’
Painted on stretched canvas and with its edges painted in soft yellow, it can be hung as is, without a frame. The painting is in excellent condition. It comes with a certificate of authenticity and signature on the reverse.

A wonderfully executed mid-century semi-abstract landscape composition, painted in oil onto canvas,

The composition presents a nature landscape setting with fields, forests, and a distant mountain range in the background. The scene has been skilfully reduced into layered planes of contrasting shades, capturing the essence of land and sky.

The colour palette is vibrant and rich, while the expressive brushstrokes convey texture and movement. The textured, yet smooth brushwork imbues the painting with a tactile, almost palpable quality, enhancing its liveliness. The layering of colour and the dynamic interplay of brushstrokes create depth and rhythm throughout the landscape.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary wide-profiled gilt frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has some paint losses at its inner border as shown in close ups, but it does not detract from its overall appearance.

    Size: 43 x 50 cm (including frame)

A large and striking mid-century abstract figurative composition, executed in oil onto canvas.

The painting presents the silhouette of 2 figures, rendered in bold and contrasting colours of orange, black, grey, and white, against a deep black backdrop. The figures stand side by side, their forms simplified and stripped of realistic detail, emphasising their shapes and the dynamic interplay of colours.

The abstract nature of the painting draws attention to the contrast between the hues, creating a sense of depth and movement within the piece. The overall effect is striking, with the stark background intensifying the vibrancy of the figures.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary wood frame. The painting has some light marks, but nothing that detracts from its overall appearance. The frame has a small mark at its bottom left corner.

    Size: 96.5 x 68 cm (including frame)

  • Fresh Fields

A lively mid-century post-impressionist landscape composition, executed in oil onto board.

Small yet impactful, the painting showcases a vibrant and abstracted depiction of nature, where lush fields with rolling hills in the background have been deconstructed and simplified into blocks of contrasting shades.

Post-impressionist in nature, the artist has selected a saturated and rich palette – using colours to evoke emotion rather than merely representing the landscape. The use of expressive brushstrokes, combined with a lightly textured surface, contribute to the painting’s dynamic and emotive quality as well.

This oil on board is housed in a complementary gilt frame. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
