  • Conjuring Blue

    £300

    Available

Free shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

A small but powerful abstract composition by British contemporary artist Lloyd Durling, painted in oil onto linen panel. Signed, titled and dated on reverse.

Central to this painting is an intense engagement with oil on linen that explore the interface between painting, drawing and collage. There is a balance between expressive play and tight control and with this comes an expanse of associations that push beyond simple categorisations of abstraction or scale. The information in each painting, given by gesture or mark, is reduced to a fleeting register on the surface, as if each mark has to count.

The idea of topography is of central importance and is explored through continuing walking projects. These serve as opportunities to gather diverse source material through physical and emotional interactions with whichever environment chosen to traverse. It amounts to a kind of urban and rural wandering where the information gathered is reinterpreted or reimagined feeding into a deep connection with landscape, arrangements of ancient monuments, light, shadow and forgotten histories – all of these elements find a way into the work.

Both painting and frame are in excellent condition.

    Size: 15 x 20 cm (including frame)

    Flux

    £470

    Available

Free UK, Europe & Singapore shipping.

A wonderfully rhythmic mid century abstract composition, painted onto board.

We get a distinct sense that the artist is painting a visual manifestation of a type of movement or motion. The artist has eliminated all naturalistic forms, concentrating instead on the trajectory and direction of the movements. The painting has a limited palette of white, black, grey and green, putting a stark emphasis on the synthesis that the artist achieves with the looped, flowing and intertwined curves. He is perhaps suggesting the passage of time as well as movement in space.

This acrylic on board is housed in its original silver frame with red undertones. There are minor stains on the top left on the painting, but the piece is in very good vintage condition overall. There are minor scuffs to the frame.

  • Modernist Ballerinas

    £895

    Available

Free shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

An outstanding mid-century figurative composition, executed in oil onto canvas by the established Swedish artist Fabian Lundqvist (1913-1989), whose works have been represented in many public collections in Sweden.

The painting captures a scene of two ballerinas surrounded by an abstract background. On the ballerinas, rhe artist’s brushstrokes are gentle and soft, reflecting a careful attention to detail. Intentionally working with a limited colour palette, the artist has reduced the area around the ballerinas to angular planes in different gradients of brown.. Details such as the small but striking red lips of the figures, as well as the layout of flat shapes and planes are typical of Lundqvist’s style.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary silver frame with an inner linen-lined border. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has some scuffs as shown in the close ups

  • Summer Park

    £545

    Available

Free shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

A brilliantly executed semi-abstract modernist oil composition, painted by the established Swedish artist Ivar Morsing (1919-2009), whose works have been exhibited in public collections including the National Museum in Stockholm, Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Kalmar Museum and Jönköping Museum.

The composition of the painting draws our attention to two figures seated on a bench amidst lush greenery. The artist’s deliberate omission of detailed features encourages viewers to focus on the overall atmospheric ambiance.

Painted in a semi-abstract style, there is a strong focus on expressive brushstrokes, as well as rich colours. The use of painterly and dynamic brushstrokes create a sense of movement throughout the painting, and the clever use of a limited colour palette dominated by various shades of greens and browns and blue helps to unify the composition and emphasise the beauty of the natural surroundings.

This oil on board  is housed in a complementary gilt frame with an inner cream window. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has some light marks.

  • City Dream

    £485

    Available

Free shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

A poignant and atmospheric mid-century cityscape composition, executed in oil onto canvas.

In the foreground, a group of figures stand together, with their backs turned to the viewer as they gaze towards distant buildings. Semi-abstract in nature, realistic details have been deliberately omitted, allowing the viewer to focus on the emotional resonance of the scene.

Using a limited and moody palette dominated by dark blues, with subtle undertones of brown and hints of light yellow, the artist displays his mastery of colours by skillfully layering the respective shades to create a textured finish, adding depth to the overall composition.

The cityscape in the distance is shrouded in mystery and the overall atmosphere is hauntingly beautiful, evoking a sense of melancholia.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary dark blue frame with an inner gilt window. There is a small area of paint loss to one of the figures, as shown in the photos and close ups. But it is not immediately noticeable due to the style of the piece. The frame has some light marks.

  • In the Shadows

    £505

    Available

An emotive and visually captivating abstract figurative painting, executed in oil onto canvas and dated 1973.

The figure stands boldly against a backdrop of muted greys and blues, which has been executed with broad and expressive brushstrokes. These brushstrokes convey a sense of movement and emotion, and the limited and somber palette of greys and blues evokes a sense of melancholia.

  • Autumn Rhapsody

    £535

    Available

Free shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

A rich and captivating mid-century abstract painting, executed in oil onto canvas by Swedish painter Hans Osswald (1919-1983), whose works have been exhibited at the National Museum in Stockholm, Malmö Museum as well as The Brooklyn Museum.

Created with a masterful technique, the artist has skillfully applied broad brushstrokes as well as layers of paint to build up a raised texture and dimension, adding depth and dynamism to the work.

Warm earthy tones of predominantly shades of brown, orange, and yellow fill the canvas. These colours infuse the artwork with a sense of vitality, evoking the vibrancy of autumn foliage. There are also touches of white, black, and blue that have been strategically revealed to add a sense of balance and to emphasise the surrounding colours. The artist’s bold and confident use of all these hues reinforces the painting’s abstract nature and creates a visual feast for the eyes.

This oil on canvas is housed in a well-suited gilt frame. The painting has scattered areas of light craquelure present, most notably in the upper dark brown section, but the paint layer is overall very stable.

These background shades evoke a sense of mystery and depth, lending an air of ambiguity to the composition.

An outstanding and visually striking mid century abstract oil painting by Swedish painter Hans Osswald (1919-1983), whose works have been exhibited at the National Museum in Stockholm, Malmö Museum as well as The Brooklyn Museum.

Using a restrained palette comprising shades of blue, black, green and white, large sweeping gestural brushstrokes fill the surface, creating a palpable sense of movement and dynamism. • Geometric Still Life

    £995

    Available

Free shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

A vibrant and playful mid century cubist modernist composition in oil, painted on board.

With a focus on shape, colour and line, the artist has abstracted what appears to be a still life composition of drinking mugs and vessels, creating a fragmented effect. This stylisation and distortion is typical of the cubist ethos, rejecting the inherited concept that art should copy nature, and instead emphasising the two-dimensionality of the canvas. The artist has done this by reducing and fracturing objects into geometric forms, and then realigning these within a shallow, relief-like space, with multiple vantage points.

This oil on board is housed in very unique and well-suited gilt frame with an inner blue and gilt border. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has slight paint loss to its blue border but this is in keeping with its vintage look.

Free shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

A brilliantly executed and beautifully textured abstract figurative oil composition, painted in 1965 by the established Swedish artist Ivar Morsing (1919-2009), whose works have been exhibited in public collections including the National Museum in Stockholm, Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Kalmar Museum, and Jönköping Museum.

A group of figures huddled closely together punctuate the center of the composition. The figures, though abstracted, exude a palpable sense of movement and togetherness. Their elongated shapes seem to sway and intertwine, conveying a collective rhythm that guides their steps.

The painting is characterised by textured and expressive brushstrokes, as well as the use of an intentionally limited yet rich colour palette. Warm and fiery shades of orange, and yellow, as well as dark brown dominate the painting. The colours of the background thoughtfully echos the hues of the figures, blurring the lines between the subjects and their environment. This intentional colour integration unifies the painting and reinforces the theme of interconnectedness.

This oil on board is housed in a complementary silver frame with an inner linen border. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has some wear as shown, and the linen border has some age toning present but this does not detract from its overall attractiveness.

A stunning abstract composition in oil, painted by British artist Marian Hyland. The painting is housed in a handmade frame (by the artist) which has been crafted specifically for the painting that sits within it.

Marian’s practice centres around the relationships of space, shape and colour, created by the interplay between drawing, painting and collage.

In this piece, the process of mark making and layering, informed by observations of natural environmental processes (e.g. textures and marks left behind through decay/neglect, industrial architecture/landscapes and random associations of objects and surfaces) are important factors in the work.

Her paintings evolve intuitively to find rather than make the work. She continues to build up and simplify until the composition settles cohesively.

Both painting and frame are in excellent condition.

    Size: 32 x 32 cm (including frame)

A striking figurative abstract composition, titled ‘Friday Evening’ and dated 2013 on reverse.
