Moonlit Sea

An atmospheric mid-century abstract coastal landscape, executed in oil onto board.

The composition presents a seascape with angular landforms in the foreground, shimmering under the moonlight. Two ships, one dark and another in a vivid orange hue, navigate the distant horizon, adding a sense of movement and narrative to the scene.

Executed in an abstracted yet expressive style, the artist has used a restrained yet evocative palette dominated by cool blues, grey, and whites, punctuated by darker shades from browns from the rocks, as well as a black and orange from the boats.

 The brushstrokes are broad and gestural, adding a dynamic quality to the scene. The soft glow of the moon, reflected on the waters, adds a sense of tranquility and mystery.

This oil on board is housed in a complementary grey-painted wood frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has some surface paint loss.
