A minimalist and inviting composition that presents a tranquil seaside setting, painted in oil onto board and dated 1982.

Two empty blue chairs punctuate the composition, and are subtly placed on a sandy shore. The horizon line delicately separates the soft pink sky from the muted blue ocean, evoking a dreamlike stillness. Executed in a minimalist and semi-abstract style, the composition emphasises simplicity, and conveys a sense of quiet anticipation and nostalgia, as if capturing the remnants of a conversation or an intimate moment left behind.

The artist has used a restrained palette dominated by pastel tones—muted pinks, warm beige, and soft blues. The gentle contrast between these hues enhances the overall sense of calm and harmony, with the blue chairs standing out as focal points against the subdued background.

The brushwork is delicate and layered, blending colours to create an impressionistic haze that blurs the boundaries between sky, sea, and sand, and reinforcing the ethereal mood of the scene.

This oil on board is housed in a complementary gilt frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition. The frame has a small area of paint loss at its lower edge as shown.
