Passage of Time

A striking and brilliantly executed mid-century modernist figurative composition, painted in oil onto board by the established Swedish female artist Brita Hansson (1918-1979).

The painting presents a dynamic group of abstracted human forms, seemingly in motion. The figures are elongated, rendered in deep reds, blues, greens, and earthy tones, set against a muted turquoise and grey background. The composition suggests a moment of interaction, perhaps a procession or gathering, evoking a sense of mystery.

The artist has used an expressive and gestural style, characterised by bold, angular forms and overlapping shapes. By masterfully layering contrasting shades through the use of short and swift  brushstrokes, there is a sense of movement created through the loose, yet deliberate application of colour and line, reinforcing the theme of fluidity and transition.

This oil on board is housed in a complementary wide-profiled gilt frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition. The frame has minor scuffing but is in good condition overall.
