This modernist ‘constructivist’ three dimensional work features cut out panels that have been painted in oil and assembled. The artist has used stripped down, geometric forms and modest materials.  It is a fine example of technical mastery and the organisation of material. Here the role of the artist as ‘painter’ has been re-imagined – the artist is an engineer wielding tools instead of a painter holding a brush. The art has been ‘built’, rather than emerging from an expressive impulse or an academic tradition. As a result, the artwork is intriguing to explore from many angles, and would make a striking addition to any space.

Both artwork and frame are in excellent condition.

  • Jug & Fruits

    Sold

    SOLD.

A visually striking geometric abstract mid-century still life composition, executed in oil onto board.

The painting features a jug and some fruits placed across a red surface, and set against a dark muted green backdrop.

Drawing inspiration from elements of cubism and geometric abstraction, the artist has masterfully deconstructed and fragmented the scene down to distinct blocks of contrasting colours and bold outlines that interact with one another. Each respective shape seems to occupy its own distinct space, yet together they form a cohesive and harmonious whole.

The use of contrasting rich shades highlights the three-dimensional qualities of each object, whilst simultaneously emphasising the two-dimensional flatness of the board.

Furthermore, the expressive and distinct brushstrokes add a beautiful textural quality to the painting.

This oil on board is housed in a stunning wide-profile  frame that further elevates the painting. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has minor paint losses but this suits its overall vintage look.

  • Lime & Shadow

    SOLD.

An invigorating and dynamic mid-century abstract expressionist painting that focuses on a confident interplay of colours and expressive brushwork.

Thoughtfully selecting a colour palette of white, black, brown, and striking lime green, the artist displays his painterly skills as the respective shades layer, intertwine, and overlap one another, creating a captivating visual experience.

The brushstrokes in the painting are expressive and textured, adding a raw and tactile quality. The artist’s gestural approach to the brushwork adds a sense of movement and fluidity to the composition.

This oil on canvas is housed in a well-suited  wood frame with an inner gilt window. The painting has some scattered areas of craquelure due to the thickness of the paint, but the paint layer is stable overall. There is a tiny 1cm slit to the canvas along the top of the painting but this is not obvious unless closely examined, a close up of this slit can be seen in the photos. The painting also has some areas of restoration which is only visible from the reverse. Overall, the painting’s appearance is good. The frame is also in good vintage condition.
