The Dancers
SOLD.
A brilliantly executed abstract figurative oil composition, painted in 1959 by the established Swedish artist Ivar Morsing (1919-2009), whose works have been exhibited in public collections including the National Museum in Stockholm, Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Kalmar Museum, and Jönköping Museum.
Set against a backdrop filled with blocks of contrasting colours including shades of brown, orange, cream, and black – two figures, one black and one white, emerge in a dance-like embrace.
Painted in an abstract manner, the figures are devoid of realistic details, yet their expressive forms convey a sense of fluidity.
The warmth emanating from the rich colour palette infuses the composition with a sense of energy and radiance. Short and expressive brushstrokes animate the figures, imbuing them with a dynamic quality that contrasts with the static setting.
This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary gilt frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition. The frame has a small nick to the bottom edge, as shown in the close up photo. No issues otherwise.
The sculpture seen in the photos is also available to purchase and details can be viewed here.
