A brilliantly executed modernist abstract figurative oil composition by Swedish painter Hans Osswald (1919-1983), whose works have been exhibited at the National Museum in Stockholm, Malmö Museum as well as The Brooklyn Museum.

Abstract in nature, the composition features the silhouette of a discernible figure, who embodies a profound sense of presence, power, and poise.

All realistic details have been intentionally left out, focusing our appreciation on the qualities of colour and brushstrokes.

Large swathes of rich colours have been confidently applied to the canvas, and the artist has skillfully layered the beautiful colours to reveal texture and interest to the painting.

The painting is also very well balanced – with the left side filled with lighter shades of whites and pale yellow, and the right side of the composition filled with darker tones of grey, black, and browns.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary  wood frame that has been painted black. Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
