A very well executed mid century modernist landscape composition, painted in oil onto canvas board.

This painting features warm earthy tones, carefully applied brushwork and a contrast of angular forms against softer curved forms. The sandy, desert tones are punctuated by areas of dark brown and green, creating great depth and intensity to the picture. Our eyes are initially drawn to the bold, angular planes in the foreground, but are then lead away into the softer rolling sands of the background. In the distance the horizon is broken up by a row of monuments.

The palette and subject of this painting makes it highly versatile. It is familiar yet we can’t quite pinpoint a particular place, lending a timelessness to this piece.

This oil on canvas board is presented in a gilt frame. Both painting and frame are in very good vintage condition.
