A large and elegant mid-century figurative composition, executed in oil onto canvas.

The artist has skillfully captured the ambiance of tranquility. The muted and subdued colour palette lends a softness to the scene, enhancing the overall sense of calmness. Shades of pale blue and gentle beige dominate the canvas, imbuing the portrait with a timeless quality.

This oil on canvas is rather heavy and is housed in a very well suited wood frame with an inner and outer gilt window. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has some scuffs and marks but but this is in keeping with its vintage style.

An emotive and striking mid-century composition, executed in oil onto board by the established Swedish artist Eric Elfvén (1921–2008), whose works have been exhibited in public collections including the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Jönköping Museum, Borås Art Museum, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

At the heart of the composition stands a commanding bull, its presence set against a backdrop ablaze with fiery hues of orange and red. Beside the bull, a torador courageously waves a muleta.

Executed in an abstract manner, the scene is rendered through a masterful reduction of form, where blocks of contrasting colours intersect to create depth and intensity. The limited yet rich palette, coupled with expressive brushstrokes, evokes a profound emotional resonance, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in the drama and passion of the bullfighting spectacle.

This oil on board is housed in a complementary slim gilt frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition. The frame has some scuffing as seen in photos.
