To its left, a cluster of paintbrushes in a deep red container suggests the presence of an artist. To the right, a bowl filled with oranges and lemons adds a lively contrast against a green backdrop. The objects rests on a checkered tablecloth, that adds structure to the painting.  Above these elements, a small framed image within the painting shows three abstracted figures. This inset image appears almost like a magazine cutout.

The artist has selected a rich and striking colour palette. The brushwork feels confident and spontaneous, with broad, expressive strokes that contribute to the composition’s sense of vibrancy and immediacy.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary silver-painted and gilt frame. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

A striking and lively mid-century modernist style oil painting by Swedish artist Eric Elfvén (1921–2008), whose works have been exhibited in public collections including the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Jönköping Museum, Borås Art Museum, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

The composition captures a vibrant dining scene on an open-air terrace.

Modernist in its ethos, the artist has skilfully reduced the composition down to blocks of contrasting colour. The use of rich saturated colours—ranging from warm orange, to azure blue and to lush forest greens—creates a vivid contrast that breathes life into the composition. In addition to this, expressive and painterly dabs have been executed with a confident hand.

Overall, the harmonious interplay of shapes and colours brings energy to the moment.

This oil on board is housed in a complementary slim gilt frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has light scuffing.

    Size: 42 x 46 cm (including frame)
