A bold and confidently executed mid-century semi-abstract composition, painted in oil onto board and dated 1954, and painted by the established Swedish artist Max Gregor Carlsson (1914-1996), whose works have been exhibited in public collections including the Malmö Museum, Eskilstuna Art Museum, Ystads Museum, Norrköping City Collection, the Landskrona Konsthall.

This painting presents a figure standing within an interior space, captured in an expressive, almost geometric style.

Semi-abstract in nature, all realistic details have been omitted and the artist has worked with simplified shapes and bold outlines.

Broad, confident brushstrokes give the work a expressive quality. The artist has used a limited yet effective colour palette dominated by muted blues, blacks, and earthy tones, with bold red accents. These contrasting colours work together to create a sense of depth and draw attention to specific areas of the composition.

This oil on board is housed in a complementary wood frame with an inner linen border. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has some scuffing.
