Canal Walk
SOLD
An uplifting mid-century modernist painting features a serene riverside scene, executed in oil onto board by the established Swedish artist Richard Björklund (1897–1974) whose works have been exhibited in public collections including the National Museum in Stockholm, Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Malmo Museum, Ystads Art Museum, and others.
The composition presents a scenic view of a canal that gently winds through the painting, with houses on the far side and a tree-lined sidewalk along the left.
The artist has worked under a largely modernist ethos, simplifying the scene down to blocks of colours, using contrasting tones to create depth and space within the picture.
The brushstrokes are delicate yet deliberate, and the palette consists of soft blues, greens, and pastel tones, evoking a pleasant, tranquil atmosphere.
This oil on board is housed in a complementary gilt frame with beaded detailing. Both the painting and the frame are in excellent vintage condition.
