Lunastal is a continuation of a series of mini abstracts responding to the colours of particularly times of the year based on the Celtic calendar.

Lunastal is the second half of summer, celebrated usually on August 1st. For Daws, this is a season of deep rich blues found in the skies and sea, that is why the presence of blue is dominant overlapping the softer pinks and yellows. Lunastal is joyful in its juxtaposition of form and use of bright colours.

This acrylic on board is framed within a white St Ives frame. tray frame, capturing the complexity of the colours within. Both the painting and frame are in excellent condition. The artwork comes with a certificate of authenticity and signature on the reverse.

Frances Daws is a British Artist working in the Southwest of England. Primarily a painter she also works within printmaking. This painting is a playful mix of rich blues and soft browns. Having studied at Falmouth, Cornwall remains a strong influence in Frances’s painting. This painting seeks to provide an insight to the feeling of the place. Frances feels a deep sense of connection to the beaches and coastal walks that provided her with many happy memories. Cornwall in summer is a celebration of this, of cooling off in the sea on hot days, bonfires on the beach, exploring rocky caves and coastal walks with a sketchbook in hand.

This acrylic on canvas is framed within a white wooden tray frame, capturing the complexity of the colours within. Both the painting and frame are in excellent condition. The artwork comes with a certificate of authenticity and signature on the reverse.

Frances Daws is a British Artist working in the Southwest of England. Primarily a painter she also works within printmaking. Having lived by the English coastline and now residing within the countryside her work is often formed by ‘colour journeys’ a form of mapping the landscape through the emotive language of colour.

In this mid-century semi-abstract figurative oil composition, a group of six figures walks forward, converging towards each other in the center.

Their forms are simplified, reducing them to black silhouettes with hints of red undertones and their faces glowing in orange. The absence of realistic details lends an enigmatic quality to the piece.

A visually striking mid-century modernist composition of a harbour scene, painted in oil onto canvas.

A body of water occupies the middle ground of the canvas. Lining the water are numerous boats, their forms captured in black silhouettes that stand out against the restrained palette of blues and creams. In the foreground, the water’s edge is populated by shadowy figures of people, their silhouettes painted in the same muted black. The background is dominated by blocks of buildings outlined in bold black lines, further emphasising their structured, almost architectural quality.

Masterfully containing elements of geometric abstraction and cubism, the artist has skilfully reconstructed the scene down to geometric shapes in contrasting colours to demonstrate a sense of depth and interest to the painting.

The use of a restrained palette, primarily blues, blacks, with hints of creams, along with the bold outlines and smooth brushstrokes, creates a composition that is both cohesive and dynamic.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary slim wood frame. There is a light surface mark at the top right section of the painting, as well as a small area of paint loss at the top edge of the painting, as shown in photos. The frame has some age wear and scuffing.
