A brilliantly executed and characterful mid-century still life composition executed in tempera on board, by the established Swedish artist Eric Cederberg (1897-1984), whose artworks have been represented in several public and museum collections across Sweden.

The artwork features a still life arrangement, including a bowl of pears and a lemon, a brown pitcher, and a white pipe. These objects rest on a wooden table, with a checkered floor and an abstracted interior in the background, which includes a bright blue doorway and a polka-dotted wall.

Inviting viewers to revel in the simple beauty of everyday objects, the painting blends realism and cubist influences, through meticulous brushwork and keen attention to detail, as well as by simplifying the objects into bold, flat shapes.

The colour palette is rich, and the brushstrokes are precise, smooth and clean – emphasising the flatness of the shapes and focusing on clarity and boldness rather than texture or intricate detail.

This tempera on board is housed in a well-suited gilt frame and and inner linen border. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
