A very well executed modernist landscape composition, painted in oil onto canvas and dated 1973.

This painting depicts a serene, tree-lined canal scene in an impressionistic style. A narrow canal runs diagonally from the foreground into the distance, bordered by stone embankments. Tall, leafless trees line both sides of the canal, suggesting a late autumn or winter setting. The branches stretch upward, creating an intricate network of lines against the sky.

On the right path, a woman in a red or pink coat is holding the hand of a small child dressed in pale colours. The figures are simply rendered, focusing more on form and colour than on detail, evoking a peaceful, everyday moment.

This artwork beautifully captures a quiet, reflective moment in an urban setting, blending natural and man-made elements. The simplicity of forms and the soft colour palette convey a sense of calm and nostalgia, highlighting the peaceful coexistence of people and nature.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary gilt frame. The painting has a very tiny area of paint loss to the upper middle section as shown in the close up. There is some minor scuffing to the frame.
