    SOLD

A serene and abstract contemporary Cornish still life painting, executed in oil onto board and dated 1995 on reverse.

The composition presents an assortment of domestic objects, including a jug and cups, subtly arranged within a fragmented, geometric space.

The artist has thoughtfully used an understated colour palette dominated by soft blues, muted greens, and earthy beige tones, creating a sense of calm and balance

Thin, precise lines define the edges of the objects, while areas of soft, blended colour add depth and movement. The overall effect is both structured and fluid, evoking a quiet, meditative atmosphere.

This Ground I’ve Walked, I’ve Walked Before (Very Large)

    Sold

    SOLD

A very large abstract painting by contemporary British artist Frances Daws, executed in acrylic onto canvas and dated 2024.
This Ground I’ve Walked, I’ve Walked Before is a reflection of a known landscape for Frances – the distinct yellow fields and green hills of England in summer. The painting has a beautifully composed complimentary poem (see below), which talks about how places stick within your very being. You may walk through places you never have before and yet find and feel a very real connection to the place and it’s steeped history.
This ground I’ve walked, I’ve walked before. I know it’s oddities, it’s dangling limbs, It’s buried roots, it’s ancient trees. Oak, elder, pine, we are all friends. I breathe it’s forests, eyes closed, hands open. I soak in it’s seas and run down it’s hills. It’s rooted within me, a lived history within every new step. I know this ground, I’ve walked it before.’
Painted on stretched canvas and with its edges painted in soft yellow, it is beautifully presented in a white tray frame. The painting and the frame are in excellent condition. It comes with a certificate of authenticity and signature on the reverse.

Frances Daws is a British Artist working in the Southwest of England. Primarily a painter she also works within printmaking. Having lived by the English coastline and now residing within the countryside her work is often formed by ‘colour journeys’ –  a form of mapping the landscape through the emotive language of colour.

A tranquil and ethereal mid-century cityscape that beautifully captures the quiet movement of daily life in Montmartre in France, executed in oil onto canvas.

The composition captures a Parisian scene with the iconic domes of the Sacré-Cœur Basilica enveloped in a misty, dreamlike atmosphere. A very unique original artwork by British artist Dave Boyd, constructed from discarded books (repurposed cloth covers, papers, cardboard, binding boards) mounted on a wooden panel in a solid wood float frame.

The grid consists of six distinct blocks in a mix of muted blues, whites, grays, and earthy reds, contrasting subtly against the warm, burnt sienna or rust-colored background. The grid arrangement is asymmetrical, giving the piece a sense of modernist abstraction while maintaining an organic, handmade feel.

The rough, textured background and carefully arranged geometric shapes suggest an aesthetic influenced by wabi-sabi, Bauhaus, or modernist minimalism, emphasizing simplicity, imperfection, and material presence. The painting has a calm, meditative quality, inviting contemplation of form, texture, and colour relationships.

The artwork is presented in wood frame that suits it very well. It has been constructed with professional grade adhesive and is shipped with robust fixings, ready to hang,

Dave’s artistic practice focuses on the juxtaposition between the manmade and the natural and the human experience of geometric forms, surfaces and materials. Paintings and collages often embody a built or constructed aesthetic and are strongly influenced by architecture and the built environment, with the aim of suggesting visual encounters with structures and landscapes. Utilising and repurposing materials,  with a focus on minimal composition, surface and colour, Dave’s work seek to utilise the subtle marks inherent in objects that have been used and handled over many years.

  • Matador in Yellow

    Matador in Yellow

    Sold

    SOLD

A striking mid-century painting that captures a dramatic bullfighting scene, painted in oil onto board.

The composition presents a matador in a bright yellow suit confronting a powerful black bull, waving a pink and red cape.

Executed in an expressive, semi-abstract style with bold, gestural brushstrokes, the forms are simplified and the painting emphasises movement and emotion over realism.

The palette is bold and limited, consisting mainly of black, pink, red, and yellow. The black of the bull contrasts sharply against the bright pink and red of the cape, while the matador’s yellow suit stands out against a dark background, creating a dramatic visual impact.

The thick, impasto brushstrokes add a raw, almost sculptural quality to the painting, reinforcing the energy of the scene.

This oil on board is set in a frame with a complementary silver frame. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

The bold use of red in the rooftops and small accents throughout the piece adds a dynamic contrast.
