A small and engaging  animal composition , painted in a naïve style in oil onto panel, by British artist Matt Rix.

This painting is a whimsical folk-art style depiction of a black boar standing on a gently sloping green landscape under a pale, lightly clouded sky. The boar is the central figure, rotund and slightly exaggerated in form, giving it a charming and humorous presence. Its head is tilted slightly upward, with small white tusks visible, perked ears, and a curious expression with wide, circular eyes.

The landscape is minimal and stylized, composed of two tones of green forming simple rolling hills. The sky is softly textured with a rustic finish.

This oil is painted onto a solid and thick wood panel which although unframed, is meant to be hung as is. The painting is in excellent vintage condition.

British artist Matt Rix spent his childhood in South Africa and now lives with his family on a small holding in rural North Wales. His paintings are uncomplicated, modernist representations influenced by primitive and naïve folk art from times past. Many of the subjects Rix paints are inspired by the animals he sees from day to day. Rix uses recycled materials including discarded paints, boards, frames and backing paper. Much of his work is therefore produced using waste materials resulting in sustainable paintings that evoke a time-worn, nostalgic essence.
