A small and engaging bird composition, painted in a naïve style in oil onto panel, by British artist Matt Rix.

This painting features a brown and white pigeon standing in profile against a gentle countryside backdrop. The pigeon has a brown body and white wing markings, standing on pinkish feet. The eye is wide and round, outlined in white with a dark pupil, giving it a curious expression. The beak is short and sharply defined, painted in black and white.

The painting captures a tranquil, almost storybook-like moment. The pigeon is presented with a sense of quiet dignity and clarity. Its stylized form and soft colour palette create a comforting, rustic charm—making it both whimsical and elegant.

The painting is housed in a black wood frame with gold trim which suits it wonderfully. Both painting and frame are in excellent condition.

British artist Matt Rix spent his childhood in South Africa and now lives with his family on a small holding in rural North Wales. His paintings are uncomplicated, modernist representations influenced by primitive and naïve folk art from times past. Many of the subjects Rix paints are inspired by the animals he sees from day to day. Rix uses recycled materials including discarded paints, boards, frames and backing paper. Much of his work is therefore produced using waste materials resulting in sustainable paintings that evoke a time-worn, nostalgic essence.
