Coastal Horizons

A serene mid-century modernist coastal landscape that captures the essence of a tranquil shoreline, executed in oil onto board and dated 1977 on the reverse.

The work exhibits an abstract, yet expressive style, characterised by a loose, painterly approach, and focuses on the interplay of form and colour as opposed to realistic details.

The artist has used broad and gestural brushstrokes, creating a sense of movement and fluidity. The use of short expressive dabs used to paint the landscape and sky contrasts with the smooth, almost ethereal handling of the water and sand, which adds character to the painting.

A harmonious palette of soft blues, whites, and muted earth tones dominate the work, infusing the scene with a calming aesthetic. The cool blues of the water contrast gently with the muted sands, while touches of olive green and yellow along the shore evoke the natural beauty of the scene.

This oil on board is housed in a complementary solid wood frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition. The frame has some scuffing as shown.
