    A small yet engaging abstract composition by contemporary British artist Frances Daws, executed in acrylic onto canvas board and dated 2024.
    Part of the ‘Imbolc’ series, the painting has been created by responding to the colours of local landscapes through the seasons of the traditional Celtic Calendar.
    The early days of the year, treading muddy fields, grey lifeless skies. Warm pinks and soft yellow hiding in the midst of sepias, umbers and russets, this is the colour of Imbolc. A season of waiting, reflection, cosy jumpers, bitter cold puddles as big as ponds, impatience and planning.

    This acrylic on canvas board is framed within a ‘St Ives’ style white wooden frame to capture the complexity of the colours within. Both the painting and frame are in excellent condition. The artwork comes with a certificate of authenticity and signature on the reverse.

    Frances Daws is a British Artist working in the Southwest of England. Primarily a painter she also works within printmaking. Having lived by the English coastline and now residing within the countryside her work is often formed by ‘colour journeys’ a form of mapping the landscape through the emotive language of colour.

    An expressive and lively mid-century modern landscape that depicts a winding country path leading through open fields toward a cluster of farm buildings beneath a cloud-filled sky, executed in oil onto canvas.

    Rather than focusing on fine detail, the artist reduces the scene to simplified forms and planes of colour, capturing the atmosphere and rhythm of the landscape setting.

    Executed in a modernist, semi-abstract style, the composition balances broad geometric shapes with a strong sense of space and light. The palette is soft and harmonious, featuring fresh greens, muted ochres, dusty pinks, pale blues, and gentle grey-lavender tones that evoke the changing light of a summer afternoon.
