A lively and expressive figurative landscape composition, executed in oil onto canvas by Swedish artist Uno Vallman (1913-2004), whose works are included in the Swedish National Museum and The Swedish Modern Museum, to name a few. His works are also included in the collections of Lyndon Johnson, Jimmy Carter, and the Tessin Institute in Paris.

The painting presents a long bridge ascending through a lush hilly landscape setting. A group of figures in white clothing and red hats and depicted crossing the bridge and admiring the scenic view before them.

Containing elements of fauvism and expressionism, this striking painting emphasises rich colours and decorative pattern.

The artist has used a vibrant and saturated palette including shades of green, red and blue. Distinct energetic and intuitive brushstrokes also fill the canvas, imbuing the work with a sense of dynamism.

A large mid century modernist street scene, painted in oil onto canvas.

Painted in an expressionist manner, this market scene features broad and distinct brushstrokes, giving this piece a very painterly effect. The artist has used a fairly limited palette, using mostly rich brown tones contrasted with the light grey and white of the buildings. Likely to be a scene in North Africa, we see a row of figures in traditional dress, including pops of red which could be Fez hats.

This large painting is housed in a well crafted wide profile wood frame which has a linen border as well as an inner gilt border. The painting has some surface marks to top right, as shown in close ups, but is in good vintage condition overall.
