• Geometric Abstract Collage with Dots

    Geometric Abstract Collage with Dots

    Sold

    SOLD

A very unique original artwork by British artist Dave Boyd, constructed from discarded books (repurposed cloth covers, papers, cardboard, binding boards) mounted on a wooden panel in a solid wood float frame, showcasing a harmonious balance of geometry, texture, and earthy tones.

The design features six evenly spaced circles arranged in two vertical columns—three white on the left and three shades of red on the right—against a textured warm brown background. The surface of the panel retains the subtle wear, creases, and grain of the original book cloth, giving the piece a tactile, aged quality that suggests both history and reuse.

The division of the background into top and bottom halves by a horizontal seam adds structural interest and hints at the collage-like assembly of materials.

Dave’s artistic practice focuses on the juxtaposition between the manmade and the natural and the human experience of geometric forms, surfaces and materials. Paintings and collages often embody a built or constructed aesthetic and are strongly influenced by architecture and the built environment, with the aim of suggesting visual encounters with structures and landscapes. Utilising and repurposing materials,  with a focus on minimal composition, surface and colour, Dave’s work seek to utilise the subtle marks inherent in objects that have been used and handled over many years.

  • The Scalloped Basket

    The Scalloped Basket

    Sold

    SOLD

A vivid and striking mid century modernist still life composition in oil, painted onto board.

This painting is a semi-abstract still life with bold shapes and expressive brushwork. It features a dark bowl or basket with a scalloped white rim sitting on a patterned, richly coloured surface, possibly a tablecloth. Next to the bowl are two round yellow and green fruits, likely a lemon and an apple.

The tablecloth has a fragmented, mosaic-like design in deep reds, blues, and blacks, creating strong visual texture and depth. The bowl or dish dominates the left side of the composition, with jagged white accents that contrast sharply with the dark background. The fruits on the lower right provide a pop of colour with their bright yellows and greens. The background wall is pale, divided into two contrasting patches of cream and olive green, adding to the geometric structure of the piece.

The painting is expressionist in style, with loose, energetic brushstrokes and abstracted forms. It emphasises contrast—between light and dark, soft and sharp, warm and cool tones. The mood is introspective and slightly mysterious, inviting the viewer to interpret the scene beyond its literal objects.

This oil on board is housed in a simple wood frame which draws attention to the painting. Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

  • Beneath the Arch

    Beneath the Arch

    Sold

    SOLD

An evocative semi-abstract mid-century modernist interpretation of the Viaduct in Algeciras, Spain, painted in oil onto canvas by Swedish artist Eric Elfvén (1921–2008), whose works have been exhibited in public collections including the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Jönköping Museum, Borås Art Museum, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

A lone, abstracted figure stands beneath an arched colonnade in the foreground, gazing out across a wide promenade that curves gently toward a serene coastal horizon. In the distance, geometric blocks suggest buildings or containers, subtly evoking the industrial and maritime character of the port city.

Modernist in its ethos, the work takes on a reductionist, semi-abstract approach, and emphasises shape and composition over fine detail. Blocks of colour form a carefully balanced arrangement, where the solidity of forms meets the openness of sky and sea. The palette is composed of a mix of muted and earthy shades, creating a harmonious interplay between land, architecture, and atmosphere.

Brushstrokes are smooth and deliberate, with areas of subtly blended paint that enhance the sense of calm and space. Gentle tonal transitions and curved perspective lines draw the eye toward the horizon, giving the work a meditative quality.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary gilt frame.  The painting has some scattered craquelure but the paint layer is very stable overall and in good condition.

  • Boulders

    Boulders

    Sold

    SOLD

A very well executed mid century modernist semi-abstract landscape depicting a rocky shoreline with water reflecting the rugged terrain, painted in oil onto canvas.

The scene features large rock formations in both the foreground and background, possibly part of a coastal or lakeside setting. The water is calm, reflecting the shapes and colours of the rocks, creating a mirror-like effect. In the background, hills or cliffs rise up, depicted in broad, angular shapes.

The brushstrokes are loose and expressive, giving the painting a textured, layered appearance. The artist uses both soft blended areas and sharp, angular strokes, which adds a dynamic, almost cubist-like abstraction to the rocks. The water is rendered with fluid, sweeping strokes, capturing the movement of light and reflection.

This painting conveys a sense of tranquillity and natural beauty, focusing on the interplay of light, texture, and form. The bold, simplified rocks contrast with the fluid reflections in the water, creating a dynamic yet harmonious composition. The artist’s expressive brushwork and modernist approach make this piece feel both timeless and contemporary, evoking the serenity of a quiet coastal landscape.

This oil on canvas is housed in a well suited silver frame, complementing the cool tones of the sky and water while maintaining a contemporary aesthetic. The painting is in excellent vintage condition. The frame has some very minor scuffs but is in good condition overall.

An serene modernist painting that captures the essence of a landscape through minimalist abstraction,  executed in oil onto canvas and dated 1987.

  • Geometric Fun

    Geometric Fun

    Sold

    SOLD

A very unique original abstract artwork, made up of paper that has painted, embroidered and then stitched together.

The paper has been stitched to create a three dimensional form that is mounted onto board and protected behind glass. The paper has been painted with an abstract composition using acrylic paint, and each alternating strip has been painted with different colours. As a result, the artwork changes depending on the angle from which it is viewed. If viewed from the right, we see a geometric patterning of red, black and yellow. When viewed from the left, a series of angled lines criss-cross across the lighter coloured surface. Although it is technically a static piece, we have in fact a very dynamic artwork that changes constantly. The paper itself has also been embroidered with an intricate pattern which gives it textured detail, visible when viewed closely.

The artwork is presented in a black frame and protected behind glass. It is in very good condition. Ready to hang.

  • Grounded

    Grounded

    Sold

    SOLD

A wonderfully executed mid century modernist abstract composition in oil, painted onto canvas.

In this atmospheric composition, the artist has applied the paint thickly, creating lots of areas of impasto (where the paint stands proud from the surface) and variation in texture. Depicting what appears to be a rural landscape, the lower section of the painting has richer, earthier colours in broad sweeping brushstrokes . This juxtaposes against the lighter top half of the painting which has been painted in a mixture of white and lilac, with hints of blue underneath, alluding to the depth of layers within the painting.

There is a really earthy quality to the piece, and its abstract subject makes it an easy fit into most interiors.

The painting is housed in a silver leaf wood frame. Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

  • Low Horizon

    Low Horizon

    Sold

    SOLD

A mid century modernist landscape composition in oil, painted onto board and dated 1958.

This painting is a minimalist landscape, capturing a solitary figure walking down a wide, pale path—possibly a country road—toward a low horizon.

The solitary figure, painted in dark tones, is central and walking away from the viewer, creating a sense of distance, journey, or introspection. The path is a broad, almost white expanse that dominates the foreground and narrows toward the horizon, drawing the eye into the depth of the scene. On either side of the path, blocks of green fields and light brown earth subtly divide the composition. The horizon line is low, with a few small, dark farm buildings or trees silhouetted against a pale blue-grey sky.

The style is impressionistic and minimalist, with loose, broad brushstrokes and a limited colour palette. The use of soft blending and lack of sharp detail gives the painting an atmospheric, serene mood. The ambiguity of the figure’s form adds to the emotional and poetic quality of the scene.

This is a quiet, evocative painting that suggests solitude, rural simplicity, and the passage of time. The lone figure on a vast path invites viewers to ponder themes of journey, memory, or homecoming, all conveyed through understated yet emotive brushwork.

This oil on board is housed in a very well suited distressed gilt frame, with a linen inner border. enhancing its classic and contemplative feel. The painting is in excellent vintage condition. There are some paint losses to the frame as shown in the photos.

  • Through the Shed

    Through the Shed

    Sold

    SOLD

A wonderful mid-century modernist composition that captures a fleeting moment of perspective, framed by the stark architecture of outbuildings,  painted in oil onto board.

The composition draws the viewer’s gaze through a tunnel-like corridor formed by dark grey and off-white structures, leading toward a glimpse of a sunlit field and red-roofed house in the distance.

Painted with flat planes of colour and confident, purposeful brushstrokes, the work exemplifies the modernist embrace of simplicity and spatial tension. The palette moves from earthy greens in the foreground to muted greys, and soft whites, anchoring the viewer in a quiet, contemplative rural scene.

The brushwork is expressive yet controlled, evoking solidity and stillness, yet hinting at life just beyond the frame.

This oil on board is housed in a complementary  wood frame with an inner cream border. Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

    Size:  63.5 x 44.5 cm (including frame)
