A large and very restful mid century modernist landscape composition in oil, painted onto board.

In this composition we see a panoramic view of a farmhouse surrounded by trees, under clear blue skies. We can tell this is a working farm as the artist has included a series of haystacks in the foreground as well as bales to the right. The yellow of the foreground contrasts wonderfully with the green of the trees and the blue of the sky. The brushstrokes are loose and expressionist, and the palette captures the soft light on the farm beautifully.

The is oil on board is housed in its original and very unique mid century frame which has a real presence to it and complements the painting very well. The painting is in very good vintage condition, and the frame has some minor wear but this does not detract from it overall appearance.

Deep, earthy colours make up this subdued palette, which is composed of a trio of bottles and 2 oranges atop a table. There is a distinct focus on form and line, where the artist has played with the shape of the objects and their shadows against geometrical planes. Areas of impasto are visible, where the paint has been painted thickly and we can see the directional strokes of the artist’s brush, creating a painterly effect. The texture of the painted surface also adds the three dimensionality of the painting, as well as highlights the effect of light on the painting.
