A large but very restful mid century modernist landscape composition, painted in oil onto canvas and dated 1957.

As a viewer we appear to be standing on a rooftop or balcony, looking out towards the view. We can almost imagine the artist painting the view before him ‘en plein air’, capturing the shapes and forms of the houses and buildings as they weave in and out of each other.. There is great depth to the painting, as the layers of buildings lead our eyes further into the picture. The artist has painted in an expressionist style, with broad and gestural brushstrokes, using a non naturalistic palette. The colours are earthy and subdued, lending a sense of serenity and calm to the picture.

This oil on canvas is housed in a well-suited wood frame with visible grain. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
