A brilliantly executed mid-century modernist style still-life composition, executed in oil onto canvas and dated 1958.

The painting presents a thoughtful arrangement of everyday objects, including plates, cups, some fruit and a knife, laid across a tabletop.  The composition is defined by strong, simplified forms and an emphasis on shape and balance, characteristic of modernist abstraction.

The artist has used a muted colour palette dominated by cool and warm earthy tones—grey, beige, brown, with touches of blue and orange-red that provide subtle contrast. The colours are layered in blocks, creating a sense of depth while maintaining the flatness of the canvas.

The brushwork is broad and visible. The edges of the shapes are soft rather than sharply defined. The composition captures the essence of the objects without focusing on intricate details, allowing the viewer to appreciate the play of shapes and colours.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary wood frame with an inner gilt window. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
