• Cubist Tabletop

    Cubist Tabletop

    Sold

    SOLD

A brilliantly executed and striking mid-century cubist still life that presents an arrangement of objects distilled into bold, geometric forms, painted in oil onto canvas.

At the centre, a single red rose rises sharply from a faceted brown vase, its angular green leaves echoing the crystalline structure of the surrounding elements. Beside it, a vivid blue jug rendered in interlocking planes stands with sculptural presence, while a small angular fruit or object rests upon a two-toned plate in the foreground.

The composition is a masterful exercise in cubist reduction, where natural forms are translated into prismatic shapes. The background is similarly fragmented into overlapping planes of muted lilac, teal, and yellow, lending the scene a sense of depth and dynamism while maintaining strict flatness.

The palette balances earthy browns and greys with vibrant accents of cobalt blue, emerald green, and a sharp pop of crimson. The brushstrokes are controlled and deliberate, applied in clean, even planes of colour without visible texture, emphasising structure over gesture.

This oil on canvas is housed in a very well-suited frame with an outer linen border and an inner cream window. The painting is in excellent vintage condition. The frame does have some scuffing but is in good vintage condition overall.

  • Life by the Water

    Life by the Water

    Sold

    SOLD

A mid-century painting that depicts a quiet coastal village scene, capturing the everyday rhythms of life by the sea, and executed in oil onto canvas.

In the foreground, two adult figures and two children are shown walking towards the water’s edge, their simplified forms reduced to geometric blocks of colour. Between them, a broad expanse of fabric or net stretches out, leading the eye towards the distant horizon. A fishing boat sails calmly in the background, suggesting the livelihood and maritime traditions of the community.

Executed in a restrained mid-century modernist style, the work favours flat planes, abstraction, and strong compositional geometry over fine detail. The figures and houses are stylised, with angular silhouettes and minimal facial or bodily definition.

The palette is soft yet striking, dominated by cool shades of sky-blue, grey, and sea-green, contrasted with earthy tones of terracotta and beige on the rooftops and figures. The balance of muted colours evokes a sense of clarity and calm, reflective of coastal light.

The artist has used broad, textured brushstrokes, layering opaque planes of colour in a way that emphasises surface and form rather than naturalistic depth. Edges are clean yet slightly rough, reinforcing the handmade quality of the work.

    Sold

    SOLD.

This 1973 textile artwork is a beautifully handwoven tapestry that captures the gentle elegance of nature through stylised floral abstraction — a hallmark of Scandinavian textile design from the era.

Depicting a cluster of bell-shaped flowers, the composition features tall, arching green stems crowned with soft pink blossoms that seem to nod delicately, as if swaying in a quiet breeze. The flowers are rendered in subtle tonal variations of pink and rose, lending them depth and warmth, while the leaves at the base are woven in cool greens and blue-greens, grounding the composition with solidity and balance.

The background alternates between deep brown and navy vertical stripes, a striking yet understated contrast that gives rhythm and structure to the design. This interplay of earthy and dusky tones allows the pastel blooms to glow softly, adding a sense of serenity and intimacy to the piece.

  • Sunlit Passageway

    Sunlit Passageway

    Sold

    SOLD

A charming mid-century modernist painting that captures a quiet street scene bathed in soft Mediterranean light, executed in oil onto canvas.

A lone figure, dressed in muted tones and carrying a bundle on her head, walks along an empty terracotta-hued pathway that leads into a cluster of geometric buildings. The architecture – flat-roofed houses, arched entrances, and clean-lined terraces—suggests a southern European or North African village, rendered with a sense of calm order and stillness.

The artist has used a restrained palette of warm browns, sandy beiges, pale blues, and soft whites, punctuated by accents of terracotta red on window shutters and rooftops. Each surface is painted in flat planes of colour, with minimal blending, giving the work a faceted, almost mosaic-like quality. Shadows fall in structured blocks, enhancing the geometry of the scene.

Brushstrokes are confident and deliberate, favouring smooth, even applications of paint that maintain the clarity of form rather than expressive texture. There is a quiet rhythm to the composition – the repeating rooflines, the verticals of the distant buildings, and the solitary figure grounding the scene with a gentle narrative presence. The overall atmosphere is one of stillness, heat, and understated elegance – an ode to everyday life rendered through a modernist lens.

This oil on canvas is beautifully presented in a well-suited linen-lined wooden frame. The painting is in good vintage condition overall, with just a tiny area of paint loss on the right-hand side – on the second building in from the right by the windows. This small detail does not detract from the artwork’s overall charm.

  • Blue Horizon

    Blue Horizon

    Sold

    SOLD.

A mid-century painting that presents a serene and minimalist abstraction of a coastal landscape, executed in oil onto board.

The composition is reduced to bold horizontal bands and planes of colour, evoking sea, sky, and shoreline through pure geometry.

The subject matter is suggested rather than depicted – soft gradations of blue recall the horizon line where sea meets sky, while the darker horizontal strip hints at a distant shoreline, and the pale lower section conveys the sandy openness of the beach.

The style is distinctly modernist, with a restrained geometric abstraction typical of mid-century sensibilities. The artist emphasises simplicity, balance, and a meditative stillness, favouring form and colour over literal detail.

The colours are cool and calming: pale sky blue and soft powder blue are contrasted with earthy browns, muted creams, and gentle yellows. These tones create both harmony and subtle tension across the composition.

The brushstrokes are controlled and smooth, with areas of solid flat colour applied in broad planes, giving the painting a crisp, clean quality. The artist’s hand is deliberately understated, prioritising structure and tonal contrasts over texture.

This oil on board is housed in a complementary and well made wood frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition. The frame has some very minor scuffing, commensurate with age.

  • Geometric Collage with 2 Circles

    Geometric Collage with 2 Circles

    Sold

    SOLD

A very unique original artwork by British artist Dave Boyd, constructed from discarded books (repurposed cloth covers, papers, cardboard, binding boards) mounted on a wooden panel in a solid wood float frame.

The composition consists of two muted circular forms, each placed centrally within the upper and lower halves of the piece. The circles—soft pinkish and earthy reddish tones—are made from swatches of book covers, creating a tactile contrast against the rich, golden-brown marbled background.

The background evokes a sense of aged parchment or worn leather, enhancing the artwork’s connection to its literary origins. The precise placement of the circles introduces a sense of symmetry and contemplation, while the visible grain and patina of the materials speak to time, reuse, and the quiet endurance of objects past.

Dave’s artistic practice focuses on the juxtaposition between the manmade and the natural and the human experience of geometric forms, surfaces and materials. Paintings and collages often embody a built or constructed aesthetic and are strongly influenced by architecture and the built environment, with the aim of suggesting visual encounters with structures and landscapes. Utilising and repurposing materials,  with a focus on minimal composition, surface and colour, Dave’s work seek to utilise the subtle marks inherent in objects that have been used and handled over many years.

  • Moonrise

    Moonrise

    Sold

    SOLD

A nostalgic and evocative mid-century modernist style composition, executed in oil onto canvas by the established Swedish artist Fabian Lundqvist (1913-1989), whose works have been represented in many public collections in Sweden.

Two shadowy figures stand quietly before a row of houses, their silhouettes sharply framed by the glow of a pale, full moon. The architectural forms are simplified into clean geometric shapes, giving the scene a sense of quiet solemnity and timelessness.

Rendered in a muted palette of browns and warm taupe, the painting has a sepia effect and captures the hush of twilight with restraint. The sky, a seamless wash of greyish-brown, is interrupted only by the soft white orb of the moon, whose presence adds a haunting serenity to the composition.

The brushwork is smooth and controlled, with subtle tonal gradients lending depth and volume to the buildings and sky. Minimal yet expressive, the artist’s technique emphasises atmosphere over detail, creating a contemplative and emotionally resonant scene.

This oil on canvas is housed in a very well-suited silver frame with an inner linen border. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

  • Old English Game Fowl in White

Old English Game Fowl in White

    Available

    SOLD

A small and engaging animal composition, painted in a naïve style in oil onto panel, by British artist Matt Rix.

This painting depicts a stylized game bird, standing in profile with a strong and elegant stance. The bird’s plumage is rendered in warm earthy tones, including shades of cream, rust red, and deep brown, creating a visually striking contrast. Its head is sharply defined, with a black beak, a red eye patch, and a piercing gaze that gives it a sense of alertness.

The bird’s legs and talons are bright yellow and its tail feathers are elegantly fanned out in a light cream colour, adding a delicate touch to its otherwise bold appearance.

The background is minimalistic and textured, with a soft, muted beige sky fading into a dark, earthy brown ground, keeping the focus on the central figure.

The artwork is framed in a rustic black wooden frame, which complements the bird’s features and enhances its traditional, handcrafted feel. The painting is in excellent vintage condition. The frame has some minor scuffing.

British artist Matt Rix spent his childhood in South Africa and now lives with his family on a small holding in rural North Wales. His paintings are uncomplicated, modernist representations influenced by primitive and naïve folk art from times past. Many of the subjects Rix paints are inspired by the animals he sees from day to day. Rix uses recycled materials including discarded paints, boards, frames and backing paper. Much of his work is therefore produced using waste materials resulting in sustainable paintings that evoke a time-worn, nostalgic essence.

  • Parasol Afternoon

    Parasol Afternoon

    Sold

    SOLD

A charming and softly abstracted contemporary still life painting that captures a quiet outdoor moment beneath a wide parasol, executed in oil onto canvas and dated 2008.

A rounded umbrella dominates the left side of the composition, rendered in loose, hazy tones of cream, peach and lavender, its form outlined with gentle linear markings. To the right, a simple round table holds a jug and a teacup, their shapes stylised yet recognisable, evoking an unhurried afternoon scene.

Executed in a semi-abstract style, the painting blends figuration with atmospheric colour fields. The outlines are delicately sketched, allowing the objects to float between definition and suggestion, giving the work a poetic, dreamlike quality.

The artist has used a beautifully muted palette – soft apricots, washed blues, pale turquoise, blush pinks, and hints of sage and lavender. These colours melt into one another with a powdery, sun-bleached quality that suggests warmth and light.

The brushstrokes are textured yet gentle, with layered pigment that gives the canvas a tactile, almost fresco-like surface. The transitions between colours are blended in a way that feels effortless and airy, while fine linear markings define just enough structure to anchor the composition.

This oil on canvas is presented in a complementary gilt frame with an antique finish. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

  • Summer Reading

    Summer Reading

    Sold

    SOLD.

A serene mid-century scene depicting two women seated beneath dappled trees on a sunlit lawn, absorbed in quiet leisure, executed in oil onto canvas.

The figures They sit on mint-green folding chairs, one reading while the other holds a small object in her hands – perhaps a flower or letter – suggesting a gentle intimacy and stillness in the moment. Beyond them, pastel-hued cottages with pitched roofs and sunlit façades peek through the trees, evoking the charm of a summer afternoon in a peaceful village garden.

The colour palette is rich – cool sage, olive, and moss greens intersect with muted stone greys and soft sky blues, creating a harmonious balance between earth and air. The sky is painted in a smooth gradient of pale blue, acting as a calm contrast to the dynamic, textured land below. Each stroke is deliberate and expressive, laid down with visible directionality, giving the impression of wind pushing across the hillsides.

Executed in a modernist-impressionist manner characteristic of mid-century Scandinavian painting, the artist has used broad, confident brushstrokes and a light, airy palette. The treatment of form is simplified yet expressive, focusing on the harmony of colour and light rather than detail.

The composition is suffused with soft greens, pale blues, buttery yellows, and lavender shadows, creating a tranquil, sun-dappled atmosphere. The brushwork is loose and painterly, with visible strokes that suggest movement in the leaves and shimmering sunlight across the grass.

This oil on canvas is presented in a complementary wood frame with an inner and outer gilt window. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

  • The Parade

    The Parade

    Sold

    SOLD

A vibrant modernist figurative composition that captures a jubilant procession winding through a lively town scene, executed in oil onto canvas and dated 1969 in reverse.

A long line of figures, dressed in bright whites with touches of vivid red and orange, marches in rhythmic formation, creating a strong sense of movement and communal festivity. The crowd appears to weave through a landscape dotted with clustered houses and trees, with the architecture rendered in warm ochres and earthy reds against a soft blue-grey sky.
