The Parade

SOLD.

A brilliantly executed mid century modernist figure scene, painted in oil onto board by the established Swedish female artist Brita Hansson (1918-1979).

In this vivid and richly coloured composition that is brimming with liveliness and energy, we see a group of figures gathered together, walking in the same direction uphill.

Painted in a semi-abstract manner, the figures have been simplified and abstracted down to painterly and expressive brushstrokes as well as juxtaposing saturated colours including blue, red and purple. The figures are position against a vividly coloured background consisting shades of yellow, red and orange, and the contrast in tones further enhances the striking colours of the figures.

This painting is housed in a complementary slim gold frame.  A small area of the backing board are visible to the top left corner, as shown in the close ups. There are some light marks to the frame, and an area of wear along the top frame edge (as shown in close up), which isn’t visible when the painting is viewed front on. Otherwise, both painting and frame are in good vintage condition.
