This modernist ‘constructivist’ three dimensional work features cut out panels that have been painted in oil and assembled. The artist has used stripped down, geometric forms and modest materials. It is a fine example of technical mastery and the organisation of material. Here the role of the artist as ‘painter’ has been re-imagined – the artist is an engineer wielding tools instead of a painter holding a brush. The art has been ‘built’, rather than emerging from an expressive impulse or an academic tradition. As a result, the artwork is intriguing to explore from many angles, and would make a striking addition to any space.

A serene yet energetic and beautifully textured mid-century abstract landscape composition, painted in oil onto canvas.

Although abstract in nature, the painting captures the essence of a landscape scene, focusing more on colour, texture, and emotion, than on precise representation.

The palette is dominated by rich yellows in the foreground, capturing the essence of sunlit plains or sand dunes. The middle and background areas feature shades of blue and teal, suggesting either the ocean or the edge of the sky meeting the horizon. Above, light blues and soft creams represent a broad, open sky, with fluffy, abstract clouds.

The texture is highly expressive, with bold, sweeping strokes that give a sense of movement and dynamism to the landscape. The thick impasto application of paint, enhances the tactile quality and adds character to the painting.

This oil on board is housed in a complementary slim gilt frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has some light scuffing but nothing that detracts.
