The colour palette consist of muted tones with contrasting pops of striking reds and orange.

The brushstrokes are energetic and gestural. These strokes do not aim for precision nor to fully define each form, but instead to capture a sense of immediacy and movement, suggesting the artist painted with vigour and spontaneity.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary dark wood frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has some paint losses as shown.

  • Moonlit Pears

    Moonlit Pears

    Sold

    SOLD

A brilliantly executed and characterful surrealist still life composition, executed in tempera on board and dated 1980, by the established Swedish artist Eric Cederberg (1897-1984), whose artworks have been represented in several public and museum collections across Sweden.

The central focus of the composition is a bold and vibrant selection of red pears, a yellow bowl, and a cluster of purple grape that have been thoughtfully arranged. They are set against a desert-like landscape with rocky mountains and under a crescent moon. The combinations of forms lends the painting a surreal, dreamlike quality.

The colour palette is vibrant yet balanced. The deep reds of the pears draws our attention, and the bold colours of the fruit and bowl stand out against the tan middle ground. Additionally, the black shadows and dark forms in the background provide depth and a sense of mystery.

The brushstrokes are smooth and meticulous, contributing to the tempera medium’s characteristic flatness and opacity. This technique lends the painting a polished, clean aesthetic.

This tempera on board is housed in a well-suited gilt frame with an inner linen border. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has very minor wear along its left edge.

    Size: 34 x 39 cm (including frame)
