Impasto Bottles

SOLD

A striking modernist style still life composition that combines abstraction, bold textures, and a harmonious colour palette, executed in oil onto board and dated 1956.

The composition presents a collection of bottles of varying sizes and colours.

Modernist in its ethos, the artist has abstracted and reduced the respective forms into blocks of contrasting colours, focusing on their essential shapes instead of realistic details.

The artist has used bold, impasto brushstrokes, applying thick layers of paint to create a highly textured surface. These visible, expressive strokes add depth and movement to the composition, conveying a tactile quality that invites viewers to explore the painting up close.

The colour palette is warm and earthy, dominated by shades of yellow, green, brown, and hints of vibrant blue and red. These muted tones work together harmoniously.  The darker accents provide contrast, emphasising the vertical forms of the bottles and the rhythm within the composition.

This oil on board is housed in a unique and characterful gilt frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition. The linen border to the frame has some age wear, but this is in keeping with its vintage style. It is in good condition overall.
