A large and very striking mid century modernist portrait composition, painted in oil onto canvas and dated 1955 by the established Swedish artist Max Gregor Carlsson (1914-1996), whose works have been exhibited in public collections including the Malmö Museum, Eskilstuna Art Museum, Ystads Museum, Norrköping City Collection, the Landskrona Konsthall.

Bold, thick black outlines define the figure and objects, contributing to the graphic quality of the painting. The colours are minimal, dominated by shades of black, grey, white, and beige. The yellow of the girl’s dress provides the only vibrant colour, drawing attention to her figure.

There is a very tiny spot of paint loss along the right side of the painting, as shown in close up, but this does not detract from the overall attractiveness of the piece. There is some general wear to the vintage frame. commensurate with age.
