The painting depicts a drum table with several objects on it including a teapot, assortment of fruit, various vessels and a potted plant. The interior has a homeliness to it, capturing details like a calendar on the wall, as well as pictures and plants.

An outstanding mid-century modernist style interior scene that has an abstract architectural composition, executed in oil.
The scene seems to depict an atrium with archways, columns, and perhaps a staircase, rendered in simplified, geometric forms. The composition is fragmented, with intersecting lines and overlapping planes that create a sense of depth and movement. At the right foreground, we can also spot a figure is entering the room.
The colour palette is muted and cohesive, dominated by soft greys, blues and green. A unique and captivating oil on canvas by contemporary Irish artist Jenny Belton.
Featuring a clam shell on a round box under a spotlight, this painting by Belton is a comment on the rarity of wisdom. In Belton’s words, “The chances of finding a perfect round pearl in a clam are 100,000 to 1. Wisdom is as rare.” The clam shell here is closed so the question remains as to whether or not there is a pearl to be found within.
Belton has a real knack for creating playful and experimental artworks, and this artwork and its irony is just brilliant. The painting has a ‘sister’ piece which depicts a pearl in a similar setting, which can be seen in the photos. Details of that painting are available to view here.
