The contrast between the raw, dark iron and the smooth, light stone base creates a striking balance, making it a visually compelling piece with a modern, industrial edge.

An excellent modernist landscape composition in oil, painted onto canvas and dated 1978.

This painting features a tranquil, open landscape under a dramatic sky. A lone figure stands in the foreground, walking into the landscape. The figure is painted with soft, blended brushstrokes, appearing almost abstract, with muted tones of brown and blue for the clothing and body.

On the left, a group of trees with reddish-brown and green foliage adds depth and warmth to the scene. To the right, there’s another cluster of trees with yellow and orange leaves, suggesting an autumnal atmosphere.

The sky is the painting’s most striking feature, with sweeping, dynamic clouds in tones of grey, beige, and white. A large, vibrant patch of blue cuts through the clouds, suggesting a break in the weather and highlighting the vastness of the open space.

A charming harbour town scene painted in 2023 , by British artist Elaine Allender.

This quayside scene has been built up in layers of paper and paint. We see the village houses tumbling down to the quay, the old harbour walls and a couple of boats moored up on the sea. The painting is full of texture, and has some of the charming roughness associated with real harbours.

The upper half is dominated by rows of houses with varied shapes and sizes, featuring pitched roofs and small windows. The colour palette of the buildings includes soft blues, earthy browns, and muted creams, adding a rustic and weathered charm. The architectural details, like chimneys and rooflines, are rendered with textured brushstrokes, enhancing depth and realism. The water reflects the dock and buildings above, rendered in soft, blended tones of blue, peach, and grey, creating a shimmering, rippled effect. The sky occupies the top portion of the painting, featuring dynamic swirls of soft blues and creamy yellows, suggesting a bright, breezy day.

Bright orange buoy-like accents and lifebuoys add pops of colour, drawing attention to specific elements in the scene. The painting’s layered textures and varied strokes add a tactile quality that conveys the atmosphere of a working harbour.

Overall, the painting beautifully captures the essence of a quaint seaside village, with its blend of rustic charm, lively textures, and serene maritime elements.

Free shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

A striking contemporary abstract still life composition that celebrates the beauty and simplicity of everyday objects, painted in oil onto board and dated 1991 by British artist Romi Behrens (1939-2019).

The painting captures an abstract, minimalist arrangement of two distinct objects – a white pitcher and a violin – placed on a bright yellow bench and under a blue surface. With its striking colour, the yellow bench dominates as a focal point, energising the composition and contrasting against the dark black background.

The presence of grid lines in the background suggests a tiled wall, and it adds depth as well as enhances the geometric nature of the composition.

Containing elements of abstraction, the artist has deliberately reduced the objects into bold, simplified shapes and flat planes of colour. The use of thin black outlines further emphasises their shapes.

The brushstrokes are visible and lightly textured, giving the work an expressive feel. The overall intentional lack of intricate details invites the viewer to contemplate the form, colour, and symbolism of everyday objects.

This oil on board is housed in a complementary tray frame.  The painting is in very good vintage condition, and the frame has some minor age wear but is in good condition overall.
