About the artist:

Ian Mood is a contemporary artist with an international reputation, having shown work with Saatchi London, Brooklyn Art Library, Battersea Art Fair & Manchester Art Fair – as well as being represented by numerous established galleries in the UK and US. He recently held his first solo show in New York.

In 2019, he collaborated as artist in residence with The National Theatre (Madness of George III with Mark Gatiss) and The Royal Exchange Manchester (Mother Courage with Julie Hesmondhalgh).

Ian is a member of Manchester Academy of Fine Arts, Society Of Staffordshire Artists and the Artist Association of Nantucket (USA) where he regularly lectures as part of their summer arts programme. He was awarded the Artists Association of Nantucket Frank Swift Chase Plein Air Award in 2014.

Ian grew up in Stoke on Trent and studied Fine Art at the University of the West of England, Bristol.

A wonderfully textured figurative composition, executed in oil onto board and dated 1976.

A figure is captured in the act of serving a drink. The figure blends seamlessly into an abstract backdrop where shades of white, light blue, greens and brown overlay one another. He or she appears as a natural extension of this delicate environment, and by leaving areas of the canvas exposed, the artist’s creative use of negative space accentuates the figure’s form.

The subtle colours, applied with loose and unrestrained brushstrokes, create a textural and visually stimulating surface. Its expressive nature also evokes a sense of movement and depth, drawing the viewer into the scene.

This oil on board is housed in a well-suited gilt frame with multiple ridges. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
