An expressive and lively mid-century still life composition with a rich palette of colours, rendered in pastel onto board and dated 1954.

An array of objects punctuates the painting – this includes a candle holder on the left, standing proudly beside two vases. Beside them on the right, two pieces of fruit – a red apple and an orange – provide balance to the arrangement.

Expressive and loose strokes of pastel give the entire composition a sense of movement and energy, while black outlines around the objects emphasise their distinct forms, evoking a sense of dynamism.

This pastel on board is housed in a complementary linen-lined wood frame, and is glazed (there is a layer of glass between the frame and the painting to ensure its longevity). The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has some marks and scuffs.
