A very well executed mid century still life composition, painted in oil onto canvas.
Featuring two candlesticks against a patterned background, the artist has played with light and shadow to create depth and interest. The palette is restrained and on-naturalistic, with mostly blue, yellow and green present, creating a subtlety that encourages us viewers to focus on the forms. The myriad of patterns and textures creates lots of interesting optical details to explore.
This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary wood frame. The painting has very light craquelure present to its upper half portion, but this is only noticeable upon very close inspection. Otherwise, it is in good vintage condition. The frame has small area of paint loss at its left border as shown.
